Personally I built one and it was insta-destroyed. I can’t remember the last time that I saw one being used in game.
Too easy of a target I think
Maybe sth like that:
Lvl 1 MG nest:
- M1919 for US
- Maxim for SU
- MG34 / 42 on lafette for Ge
“Lvl 2 MG nest” (of course with adequate high cost to build):
- .50 BMG for US
- DShk for SU
- single 2cm AA gun without a shield (more firepower but hard to hide and low mag capacity)
It’s heavy asymetrical ballance but imo it might work.
Of course AP ammo for MG as lvl 2 building is also an option, but it feels meh when compared to allied structures that will be unique.
Or…
We can make lvl 1 MG nests I mentioned into a squad. Crew-Served Weapons
Then lvl 2 MG nests I wrote about would be build by engineers. I guess it makes more sense.
I mean yes, I think I that just because of how effective the mounted LMG performs it should be built only by engineers, but at the same time I find it worked that it isn’t something available to all engineers, instead of been limited to some engineer squads.
Hard no from me. It doesn’t make any sense to make LMGs a building.
Well those are LMG positions with pre set ammo boxes so they can feed from long belts, I get that it sounds wired to have LMGs you can’t move and done that you can in the case of machinegunners, still we already have that, you want to remove the current LMG positions?
Yes. And replace them with things that are both historical and are in line with the laws of physics:
I am neutral on that stance, LMG positions, that where set up in place with large ammo boxes full of belts, where used for great effects, so having that removed doesn’t feel right.
After all the setup for a assaulting or mobile LMG is different from a defensively placed lmg
Hold my beer. I made a few sugestions that answer this problem.
I propose to make an item (ideally avalable only to MG squad for balance purposes) or a squad upgrade, that will give you an option to switch from short to long ammo belts during the fight. Mounting longer ammo belt will disable sprint.
Ideally it would be an item and along with tripod it would be carried by assistant gunner. But I guess it will never happen as devs seem to take more CoD-rambo approach.
that is a pretty good idea
Personally I would prefer dedicated HMG squads but well, democracy stated differently.
how would that work?
HMGs from what i know are way too heavy to be practically transportable by a person
You have 4-9 man strong squad with you. It’s more than enough to move one HMG.
yeah, but how would you imagine the carrying actually working
most of the stuff i can think of is just a glorified engi building
-
One soldier caries tripod, 2nd caries the gun. If one of them dies, other soldier from squad pick up his stuff.
When you give an order to set up MG, you can chose the place like in case of buildings and your soldiers will assemble the gun there. -
The gun is moved as a whole. 2 soldiers carry / tow the gun. Give an order to set it up.
-
Mix of both systems. Imo the best option.
You use 1st method if you want to have more firepower in move. You use 2nd method if you want to set up the gun quickly but it makes you more vunerable while moving it.
so just an engineer building with extra steps
it would probably be better to just give enginner the option to build HMGs
considering that the HMG would be the only interesting characteristic i doubt most people would replace any of their squads with them
Maybe. But imo using hammer to materialise HMG nest is boring.
I just want to see crew-served weapons in game. They have a huge ponential here.
So maybe a compromise? HMGs are build by engineer squad but MG squad can unlock option to carry one into the battle. It won’t have a sandbag cover in fron of it as a downside or something and you would sacryfice one of the main weapons.
that is one place where gameplay takes over realism
imagine- you order to build a MG and the bot carrying an important part get stuck
or better yet, gets sniped and gives the sniper a free killstreak, with all the other bots going to pickup the piece
and in general building stuff would be a pain, a you would have to wait for the bots to come(the carrier would probably also be even slower)
I must agree. Still, I hope that one day crew-served weapons will be a thing. So far movable AT guns are (were?) coming so I would say that first step was made.
