I decided to race the planes, flying straight and level from spawn in practice: (you won’t get these in matches most likely but)

TL:DR the FW 190 A-8 gets beaten in Speed by all the Comparable BR 3 Aircraft. Worse at dog fighting AND slower

FW-190 A-8 vs BR 3

P51D: (first Place)

539km/h as I hit the edge of the map

546km/h dying from out of bounds (was still accelerating)

La-5FN: (Second Place)

All these were done with full payload. The FW-190 A-8 breaks 525 IF you dump the rockets but everything else still beats it if they drop payload, except Yak9k (P51- hits 573 if you dump the bombs)

The FW 190 is better for air combat than any other fighter in Germany, which is why I mentioned that they didn’t use the fighter, because those advantages are only for ground attack, which is what some claim the FW 190 A8 is weak at.

It has the most guns yes, But I find the G.55 fiat and “any” of the 109s far superior. They can actually dog fight. The G10,14 and K-4 smashes the 190

But to each his own

Maybe it’s a matter of taste! The 109s are more stable, but the 190’s maneuverability is so high, even if a skilled pilot gets behind you, you have a chance of defeating him.

It can roll VERY well but everything else is far worse, especially the turning. So I don’t understand why you think so.

Im a fw-A8 enjoyer and I love this plane, good fire power, and fun to use but never experienced to defeat a pilot who gets behind me, maneuvrability with this plane is kinda joke

Changing the BR wont help since all the FWs are broken anyway.
In BR 5 the A-8 flies the least bad, then the worse D-9 and then the worst D-12.

Its been broken for so long with no hint of being looked at. Putting it at BR 3 will at least Put it at a BR where Germany doesn’t Have CAS on their Fighter. Might gain “some” purpose (even if the other nations BR 3 planes will still fly circles around it)

get some use out of it while it forever waits for some TLC

I was actually waiting for Fiat G.55 to become BR3 as it was originally planned before the merge, someone who probably never flew it complained about it and it was moved even though its in the same powercategory as the P-51 D.

Or just all of its 20mm cannons. I just want an FW-190 that performs at its full potential.

20mm cannons are good medicine. If you are going to have a 190 without bombs, at least have the FW 190-A5/U12 with gun pods

I loooooooooooooove blapping things with its 6x20mm cannons in warthuder. (the FW 190 A-8 is close enough I spose…at a lower BR)
