Another Victory Day is here. When will the Reichstag map be opened? Let us go plant the red flag

Another Victory Day has come around again. This year’s Victory Day feels pretty boring though; there’s nothing new themed around the occasion besides a marathon event. The only worthwhile reward to look forward to is the tier IV ISU-152. Just thinking about taking it up against Ferdinand and Tiger II already feels rather hopeless.

I’ve been playing Soviet and German BR 3 lineups for a whole month without running into any BR 4 tanks at all. Even if one does show up, after taking it out quickly with a Panzerfaust, you never see another one again—it still basically feels like pure BR 3 gameplay.

Later I tried BR 4 myself. After double-checking, I only brought mostly tier IV armaments, yet I still got stuck permanently in BR 5 matchmaking. Since then, I’ve never touched BR 4 again.

Back to the main topic. We all know how the Battle of Berlin ended: the Soviets finally captured the Reichstag, fighting fierce battles against the last fully armed SS soldiers holding out inside the building. After heavy sacrifices, they raised the red flag atop the Reichstag. Yet so far this iconic moment only exists in photos and footage. I remember the Call of Duty series already recreated this map and scene years ago. It’s been so many years for our WWII infantry game, so why has this final iconic moment still not been added into the game?

I think releasing this Peace Elite map would be beneficial to both Germany and the Soviet Union. It was already ridiculous that capturing the row of small ponds in front of the Reichstag counted as victory, as they had no strategic significance at all. The real key target was clearly the parliament building itself. If this map gets launched, the Germans would get to defend the location again, while the Soviets could aim to capture it and plant their flag. It would be a win for both sides.

Next is the issue of the blocked black zone behind the Reichstag where tanks currently can’t pass through on the map.
For this final spot, whether you’re attacking at the start or defending at the end, tanks are forced to spawn only at the left respawn point. Once you get pinned down there, it’s really tough and frustrating.

There are plenty of other spots in Berlin that only have one respawn point even though there are clearly two available routes, yet they just didn’t design it properly—it’s really annoying.
On that particular route, if my tank didn’t have the repair/heal skill, I would’ve gotten wiped long ago. It’s clear DF hasn’t realized how this black zone can completely trap and destroy a tank trying to get to the other side.

Once we were on the verge of losing. If I hadn’t charged through with my almost dead armored unit and blown up all three enemy infantry spawns plus their tank spawn point, we would’ve had no way to win at all.

So I also suggest removing the black zone along the street behind the Reichstag, and adding a tank respawn point on both sides of the area.

I think this is way more interesting than that last stronghold in Normandy, where you had to assault that run-down, wide-open villa. I remember the Giant Formula mod already recreated this scenario.

It’s basically the final stronghold, and the German spawn points are really poorly designed. Spawning out from either side puts them right in the open, directly in the line of fire of the attacking team’s tanks. A whole wave of them gets wiped out before they can even get set up.

They’re at a huge disadvantage this way. It’d honestly be better to let them spawn straight out of the Reichstag building itself. On top of that, vehicle spawns are locked only to the left side, so all three tank spawns have to come from there—and that side is way too exposed and open.

Back when I drove the KV-2 in the Berlin map, the enemy was completely pinned down. I’d fire one shot, and by the time they were ready to roll out again, another 20 seconds had passed, letting me fire another round right on cooldown. They never had time to react properly. All because of their terrible spawn placement, I could camp and lock them down completely. They had no way to take me out head-on. In the end, only enemy infantry sneaking around for ages managed to get behind me and take me down. By then though, I’d suppressed their fire for ages and cost them almost 300 manpower. The losses were just way too heavy for them.

So the real question is: where should the German spawn points actually be placed for the Reichstag defense?

But this brings up another problem. If we reverse the battle and let the defenders switch sides, we can’t have the Soviets holding the Reichstag instead. If that’s the case, the German spawns and their attack routes will have to be adjusted, which means expanding the map further back. We’d also need to add more roads and ruined terrain in the back area.

Thinking about it, this would be quite a big project to redo. Still, hassle aside, we really need to push the devs to fill in this last missing piece of the main storyline. How can you even call it Victory Day without it? We can’t just go in circles forever, leaving the war never properly concluded just because the Soviets never got to storm the Reichstag and raise the victory flag.

Did I understand correctly that you want to have battles inside this building? If so, there’s one problem with that. This game also has tanks and planes, and they’ll have absolutely no business inside this building. Theoretically, the most you could do is set up a capture point right at the entrance so tanks and planes could attack it. It’s also possible to set up a capture point on the roof. For example, the fourth point is right at the entrance and the fifth is on the roof. Generally, I don’t care at all about the feelings of tankers and pilots in this game, and I’d gladly get a map set inside this building. Still, maps should be designed in such a way that they can be played with any available squads.

well it can be like the chancellory building attack, Germans spawn inside and just like when u fight for that district, u fight room by room.

So, the Russians spawn outside and the Germans hold the outer building and then they get pushed in further and further, maybe until the roof top and then eventual loss / victory etc

Don’t think it could suit conquest, but defo invasion

on this, isn’t the first time that planes / tanks have a small role

though, outside the building im sure there could be many flanking manoeuvres which they could assist with

Do you really think a map is a total failure if tanks and planes can’t get involved in the fight?

Historically, in locations like the opera house, conference buildings and other strongpoint objectives, enemy tanks could only fire HE rounds from the outside at best. Most of the fighting still relied entirely on infantry clearing the buildings room by room to secure victory.

Vehicles can’t carry the fight forever.

No, if the zones are arranged in the right way.

I’ll repeat it again.

I can’t say for sure either. No matter how the game is designed, it should still stay grounded in real combat logic.

The Reichstag could basically be treated like a massive, scaled-up version of that Normandy mansion stronghold. Over there, tank spawns are only forced down narrow paths, making them extremely vulnerable to airstrikes — really frustrating to play.

If large-caliber artillery could blow apart parts of the outer walls to open up new routes for infantry, tanks would actually serve a much better purpose.

I remember the stronghold right after crossing the big bridge has four entry points for tanks, yet most of the time they can’t really do much. They get taken out quickly by close-range infantry weapons like the Panzerfaust. That’s just an unavoidable downside of tanks in urban street-fight maps.

That’s why I don’t recommend using tanks for close-quarters brawls. Their best role is simply finding firing angles to shell inside buildings and clear out enemies. After all, there’s no friendly fire in the game anyway.

Agreed. I love playing planes (not tanks, ew), even if I’m not great, but there are certain maps where they just don’t help all that much. Urban maps sure there are large streets that infantry COULD run down in a line that is easily strafable, but they don’t, because there are buildings and doors and windows everywhere that you can tuck into. There’s a reason you can take 3 infantry squads into a battle, and ALWAYS have the option of respawing as an infantry squad instead of a vehicle, it’s because vehicles aren’t always useful.

exactly, there is a time / plane for combined arms and sometimes not

Does that map still work? Last time i tried it my game crashed

I tried running this with players just yesterday. Every time, after about a minute, I’d be returned to the lobby with a message saying the connection was closed. You can play this with bots, but they tend to congregate in the most uninteresting places.

Chances are it’s DF’s dumb anti-cheat system acting up, flagging you as a cheater and kicking you out. On top of that, you even risk getting your account banned, then have to politely beg customer support just to get it restored.
