I think a lot of historical issues would disappear if the campaigns are extended from the somewhat limited timeframes their names imply.
eg instead of “Battle for Moscow” - extend it to Stalingrad, call it “Barbarossa to Stalingrad” (or similar, introduce Pz 4F2/G and T34 and KV-1 at higher levels
Instead of “Operation Overlord” make it “Liberation of France” - extend it to the start of the Battle of the Bulge (and then arguments about the inclusion of the Jumbo magically disappear!
Instead of “Battle of Berlin” make it …err… can’t actually think of a better name since all the immediately previous battles are all part of the Soviet “Berlin Strategic Operation”… but you could expand the maps to have some countryside areas for Seelowe Heights to provide a variety of battlefields.
But also this sort of allows for some matchmaking based on campaign level - eg early levels in “Barbarossa” would exclude the Pz-4G and T-34 - they would come in at later levels at the “stalingrad” end of the campaign.
Similarly Jumbo and various other more advanced equipment come at the “Ardennes” end of that campaign.
100% agree that this would be a good change. All it takes from the devs up-front is a name change, and leaves things open to various additions of maps down the line, without any need to actually do anything, really, in the short-term. Meanwhile, it offers more wiggle room for weapon and equipment inclusion as well as toning down historical accuracy complaints.
I actually changed my mind about it, but still try not adding tiger 1s and panthers because they were tanks during that time.
Will make the game too unbalanced…
