A small rant about late war gameplay (complaining about semi-autos/full autos)

Only fg42 is really out of place for normandy belancing but anyway the damege is already done lets ad a pershing for murica

Yesterday my idiot teammates had problem destroying a stuart, so no thanks.

 now I want wiew this

Did you know Soviets planned to arm lots of soldiers with semi autos even before WWII itself? They tried to do so with AVS-36 then SVT but didn’t replace the mosin completely. Even way before that they tried with the Fedorov Avtomat but their situation at the time didn’t allow it.

Of course there’s the Americans with their M1 Garands which well known.

Semi-automatic weapons are fine. Problem are full auto weapons equippable by non-specialist classes. That makes literally everything else obsolete and only helps to ruin the fun. Any automatic weapon should be restricted only to specific specialist classes (aka max 4 per squad).

I don’t agree that automatic weapons are not fun, but I totally agree that in late game you can throw bolt action rifles out of the window.
Which is kind a sad.

Even if developers introduce a filter that new players are protected, I ask myself how they want to determine the players that need to be thrown into high tier.

And even if they do that right I am not sure If I want to play a game, where everyone runs with smg, lmg. It does not feel like WW2.

the solution is simpler than expected it is not said that all campaigns once released have semi-auto and full-auto weapons for infantry not specialized in automatic weapons, take the winter war there were no semi-auto and full-auto weapons for non-specialized infantry, maybe in the future we will see campaigns of this type

Imho the fuss about full auto rifles is overly exaggerated.

Talking about Normandy, M2 and FG don’t appear to break the game at all to me.

The M2 is, in the end, a not-so-great SMG (The Thompson feels way better) that only shines in extremely close quarters hipfiring, thanks to high ROF. In any other engagement, its low power + high recoil puts you at a disadvantage against any semiauto rifle, if not even against bolt actions. (No earlier than yesterday, I lost an engagement at 50m or less despite scoring multiple hits first, none of which proved incapacitating - only white crosses.)

To give an idea for German players, the M2 feels almost like the Beretta 1918.

The FG, while undoubtedly an upgrade over Gw43, is best used as semiauto, since even when mounted its recoil in full auto is strong enough to make you miss most shots even at medium distance, which you can’t really afford given the ammo limit. Unlike in example the BAR, that can be effectively used in short bursts while standing and still put most rounds on target. Therefore, the best practical advantage of the FG is the 20 rounds mag, rather than the full auto capability.

I think weapon power for firing rates could be moderated in a realism mode. In this mode instead of having troop maximums for reinforcements there were also ammo or logistics capacities so that there is a limited ammo amount also, and where resupply is possible there may be limited supply. This would reduce the murder death kill aspect instead of simply allowing resupply unless there were resupply points crates etc… then you may only have a certain amount of resupply.

The other half to this is that you may only play a squad once during a battle, if it is wiped out it is done for that battle. Then there might be randomized squads that are purchasable with logistics points that will consume logistics, ammo and personnel points for that battle. Not simply regenerating squads. This what your squads end up being “special” The game might also make different level squads cost more logistics supply, as would certain weapons eat up a certain amount of logistics points so that people with heavy powered units and weapons might limit their ability to respawn or consume more lo

also in this same respect you might have different ammo types not just different weapons there were a variety of ammos out there for single weapons some way more effective at different things. Like AP or HE rounds out of a machine gun might tear through a lightly armored vehicle much easier while incinderary rounds might catch a vechile on fire if it has little armor like a truck or car and there are hits in vital area. If vehicle armor points and fire risk levels different rounds may effect vehicles different such as starting fires or actually penetrating armor or damaging parts a bit like grenades do.

I’m thinking a WW1 campaign could be interesting. Imagine early WW1, no tanks, no dive bombers, mostly just bolt action and stationary mgs.
