Sometimes you get stuck in the trench and can’t get lost (happened for one poor fellow a couple of hours ago. We’re on level 22 and he had to alt-f4 and hope he could return).

Just because some people can walk with their hands faster than disabled people with their legs, doesn’t make hands equally good at moving around.
Its is much harder and takes much longer to learn playing with a controller AND will eventually give you a smaller skill ceiling. A pro with mouse and keyboard will always beat a pro with a controller in Shootergames.
This is undoubtedly a fact. Just because you are playing better than 90% of the total playerbase, doesn’t make controllers equal, because spoiler "90% of the playerbase are pretty mediocre.
I agree something has to be done with people just AFK farming waves - had this happening quite a few times in the past matches, so the rest of the players have to pick up that slack, though they do not have any real good chance to get very far with one man less. People not really actively participating in beating back the Zombie waves should be AFK kicked at least.

You were right. No penalties.
I enter the game, as soon as I get two medkits in a row, I leave the game.
If I see a player running towards zombies, I leave the game.
If I take a headshot at the start of a wave, I leave the game.
If I pick up a useless weapon at the start of the game, I leave the game.
Its much more fun.
In short, no penalties.
What is so bad about that? Knifing the zombies is much faster than using the starter mosin
imagine seeing a player in wave 1 running toward the zombie and you leave lol. Like seriously that gotta be the worst reason to desert i have ever seen, if it was like wave 10 then sure but since they didnt say which wave i can only assume it wave 1
