I think you are right after getting all upgrades squad points just get stored and wasted it should be used

Its not only about doing research, the game will be changed and rebalanced on regular basis, the choice you make now may be terrible later due to some changes. Being asked to pay each time meta changes by devs is wrong.
The respec should be grindable or/and included in premium account.

Would still require payment, so no. Just re-roll points via squad upgrade levels, just like soldiers have re-roll points with their levels. The system already exists, would be easy to implement, and work like a charm.

Squads should receive ‘respec’ points like soldiers after max level. In that case it would be acceptable to instantly respec with money
