So I noticed that, when you have a completely unmaneuverable plane that somehow still survives all attacks, the game rewards you for gaining some height and then just parachuting by teleporting you alive right back into the fray - however, if you find some open field and manage to land it intactly, you get punished by simply dying to out-of-battleline-damage.
In Warthunder, Gaijin rewarded players (if only with some XP) for managing to land a wrecked plane. I realize that this is not a game-breaking thing, but it still bugs me how the cheaper option is actually the one the game apparently wants you to pick…
I’ve done it a few times and it feels awesome, only to realize I am to endure a long painful death seconds after leaving my plane.
Why should landing a wrecked plane be rewarded? It didn’t benefit the team at all and it is just a waste of time. War Thunder is a vehicle based game so showing talent of piloting or driving may make some sense. But in Enlisted vehicle is mainly in support role.
If you parachute and get teleported is not really a reward because you only have 1 man . You spawned at default spawn → run 100+ meter → get shot → die.
I would rather suicide and spawn an assaulter squad at friendly rally that is closer to the point.
We just want imersion in the game, we like to act like each life, each soldier, each squad, each bullet counts, its a game, and each person has it ways to have fun with it.
Well, were Enlisted realistic, landing a plane would be valuable in the sense that it could be salvaged later (assuming your side gains the upper hand over the area), while a parachuted pilot would just be captured on the spot in 50% of cases, since he parachuted over enemy held territory.
So then, if the simple reason why parachuting is more beneficial to your team, being you’re back in the fight faster, is because “it’s a game” - then a developer can reward the harder option simply because “it’s a game” and they want to.
God help me for even typing this, but WT does give you some credit for landing the plane (as I recall).
It might not be a bad idea if they would detect that the plane landed, send the pilot back to the proper side (as though he/she ejected) and then REWARD the pilot some points (maybe +75, +100?) for trying to save the plane (valuable war matériel).
So a pilot magically teleport few km to the battlefield is called immersion?
Real life pilot will avoid ground fight and find way to safety.
Fine, then how about this , if the battle is won by pilot’s side pilot get bonus score. If the battle is lost, the pilot would be deducted some score because of letting valuable material been capture by enemy and people who shot it down get bonus score.
That actually sounds like a really good idea - basically taking a risk if you reckon the team can win even with you out of combat for the time it takes to land it safely, while if you’re not sure about that just returning to it as quickly as possible.
That would require some map awareness on the side of the pilot as well, instead of just playing double plane setups having basically Warthunder with squishy targets, as I’ve seen a lot of people do lately (so much for “vehicle is mainly in support role”).
