I and probably most of community though that the main difference between assault rifles and select fire rifles was the round they fire. ARs fire intermediate cartridge and SF rifles fire rifle cartridge.
But apparently it’s not the case as we can see:
So what are the criteria of AR and SF rifles?
Because at this point it feels like the only reason to classify a gun as one or the other is “because I [Devs] said so”.
It’s a bit arbitrary, the M2A1 carbine is classified as a SMG whilst the regular M2 is a SF rifle. This is what happens when several different people over a period of many years have to tackle the same issue. The M2A1 is older in the game than the regular, and I suspect the Fedorov is older than the AS-44. All we can do is ask the devs to consolidate and rethink some of their classifications, or more precisely to ask them to reconsider what weapons fit in where.
i just dont like that if they classify fedorov as SF it will become new meta amongst soviets that will become more powerful than fg42 when paired with body armor. it will have better damage, less recoil and larger magazine.
I think that is a bit simplified and a more accurate definition would be:
The assault rifle is a standard issue infantry weapon firing intermediate cartridges, capable of sustained automatic and semi-automatic firing without mounting the weapon.
By your definition even RD-44 would be an AR so Im nitpicking but for good reason here.
Fedorov Avtomat is not a standard issue infantry weapon as it was used and designed for light machine gun role. In fact LMGs in WW1 often did not have bipods and fired full power rounds (like Bar 1918) and were not called LMGs because that term didn’t exist and were called automatic rifles instead, Fedorov Avtomat → Fedorov’s automatic rifle.
Fedorov Avtomat in Enlisted is a total fantasy weapon in real life it was a very crappy machine gun like Chauchat and had rof of just 400rpm, it had awful recoil and was barely usable.
Last stock was depleted during Finnish war so it would be impossible to gather more than 4 of them post 1941 and especially while fighting at Berlin. It should be the BR2 LMG instead of a pseudo Soviet bias Assault-rifle-machinegun hybrid.
Ain’t it funny how they can invent rof for Soviet guns and always make them better than irl but vastly nerf rof and dmg of German/French guns. I’m seeing pattern there.
They have love/hate relationship with Japan, they gave them insanely good smgs across all BRs (except BR5 as it has nothing), the best AT rifle but no good AT rocket launcher at mid-high BR, trash overtiered rifles outside of BR1 and BP Hino rifle, the best SF rifle in a game, mediocre tanks and crappy overtiered planes that they finally going to correct.
So as you can see Japan is a very weird country atm at every occasion you have loads of the worst unlocks possible and also the best unlocks in the game it’s really uneven only extremes can be found there.
I meant difference between AR an SF only, no other guns included, as they are overlapping right now. That’s why I skipped all other parameters (like detachable magazine, that’s quite important one).
