As of now, USA doesn’t have a tech tree MG at BR 5 that competes with the Tech Tree BR 5 MGs of the other nations. Here are some general specs of the T23E2:
Chambered in .30-06; 12.0 (13.2) damage
100 round belt feed drum magazine
800 (880) RPM
Yes, this weapon has been suggested before, but maybe not in the context of a rework of a bunch of weapons within a tech tree. I think it’s a perfect addition to the USA tree at BR V.
A brief summary of all of the changes:
M1941 becomes a BR II MG, rate of fire is reduced to 450 (500 RPM)
The only thing about this is, I really dont like prototypes making it into the TT so Im against it on that levels, but otherwise the Part 1 and Part 2 of this suggestion are great and I fully agree with it.
Instead for a BR5 weapon we could see something like the Vicker K maybe? That and ofc, the Lewis gun for BR3.
Prototypes in the tech tree are already a reality (Type Hei Automatic, T20 etc), so it’s just a standard that exists in the game. I do like the idea of the Vickers K or something equivalent getting added, but I don’t see why there can’t be an American option as well.
While a US option would be nice, the vickers K could easily fill the role for now.
As for prototypes, just because BR5 is infested with them, doesnt mean we should push for them to be added non stop either. If there is no other options for the US, maybe then.
I mean what I was looking at and seems like an interesting option, is the M1917, the US version of the lewis chambered in 30-06, only 600RPM but you could make the argument for it to have much higher damage as a result, and if you wanted to, you could add the larger 97 round magazine. It saw service with the US in WW2 in all branches apart from the Army, but the US Coast Guard and marines used it, including a member of the Coast Guard who won a medal of honour using one at Guadalcanal, Douglas Munro.
Prototypes should only be added to fill in balance gaps in nations rosters, which makes them fine in some areas but completely unwarranted in others.
That goes without saying that I think SF rifles should never have been made so prevelant in the first place, FG 42s as event paratrooper weapons, and Soviets as the only ones with tech tree SF rifles. But 1-for-1 balance has won out over asymetrical balance. But to sum up, if there is need, it can be added, it’s just in this situation the need is being disputed.
I still think prototypes are “cool”, but I’m happy with production or serviced weapons being used instead, unless there’s a special case where it makes more sense to use an experimental weapon and save the production and service weapon for something else.
I guess I do have preference for variety as well. Part of why I prefer the T23E2 over something like a Lewis gun is that we already have Lewis guns in the game, and I would place Lewis gun variants at BR 3-4 if they were to be implemented.
I have no issue with prototype guns as event or even premium squad weapons, dare I say I quite enjoy them in limited numbers, I just dislike seeing entire BR’s become a sea of ultra rare weapons, I mean the Uragan being a perfect example of that.
I also have no issue with variety, however priority should be given to both the more iconic and commonly used weapons of the period over one off testbeds. I mean at least something that saw combat trials if nothing else.
