If you really find yourself in the very unfortunate position of 8 teammates leaving and them somehow not being replaced, you can always quit too. You also have that option.
If you don’t find having majority of teammates be AI as fun, you too can quit the match. No one is stopping you, no one will hold it against you.
Punishments for early-game desertion, of any kind small or large, are just unnecessary.
Not trying to be a smart-ass or clever, but could you explain what you’re referring to?
From my point of view I haven’t seen a single post here that wasn’t relevant to the topic, or wasn’t worth sharing for or against the idea of desertion punishments.
I’m just not sure how far we can go regarding this topic before we start coming in to the territory of other issues.
Speaking of, let me also steer this (my) comment back to the discussion so that the comment isn’t entirely admin/rules related:
The whole idea of desertion penalties weaves in with a whole bunch of issues, as I stated in my first post here; there’s other issues driving desertion penalties that feed in to the problem.
I don’t think it’s just one simple “yes or no” answer to the problem. We shouldn’t just punish people for leaving, but instead address why they leave - as such, I don’t think a desertion penalty is needed or wanted.
The original OP idea is to find ways to prevent people from quitting a match ignoring the punishment suggestion that is. So discuss ideas related to those as the topic as this topic is a suggestion
I believe the OP suggestion was, effectively, to:
“Add a Lost Game count on players’ profiles” - as a form of desertion punishment.
I am saying:
“No, this suggestion, and other forms of desertion punishment, are unnecessary. They shouldn’t focus on the what [the fact people do desert], but the why [why do people desert]”
Any conversation around desertion is going to involve discussing other things too, because there’s many root causes for desertion. It’s not a one-problem issue, nor will it have a one-bandaid solution.
I think a little bit of leeway needs to be given here for this discussion. It’s not like the OP is talking about the Sherman tank and then we started talking about an STG-44… the desertion topic is naturally a wide topic that covers many issues.

I hope this is just a misunderstanding and not some new rule for the forums where discussing suggestions is no longer allowed, that’d be disappointing.
Instead of looking for ways to punish people how about we question why do some people want to become an XP pinata when that team is clearly gonna lose.
Most people don’t understand this is intended to be a casual player game, not esports/MLG. Casual players will leave for all sorts of reasons like, dinner is ready, the dog needs to go out, gotta help mom, need to take a phone call, etc etc. and sometimes they we go AFK to do something real quick and come back to screen with clouds (getting kicked). This is just inevitable for those reasons ALONG with any reasons for being unhappy with the game/match. At the end of the day I’m not sure there is a true fix for this, casual players will be casual players, and DF will never be able to implement approved systems for everyone. People will always be unhappy with the game and leave. Punishment is always a bad idea and I’ll never suggest it. I’ve seen AAA games rollback timeouts for quitting along with SBMM within months of putting it out. They try to cater to the noobs to get more new people then just end up pissing off all their loyal fans.
you’re right, however I was quite surprised when I realized that deserting a match doesn’t result in a lose to win%, like… why? deserting is straight up losing and maybe even worse, this may result with people deserting on purpose to keep theirs win rate high, which now isn’t a reason to quit casual game, is it?
I have no problems with it counting as a loss, or even showing number of quit games. I don’t really think that counts as a punishment. I imagine there are people abusing that to keep a high win rate but i also assume those people are few in the population
its enough that i see winning team lose cause people quit over dyeing to much also i am a casual play by what most of the try Hards say about me … that said i have the view of if you quit out cause you don’t like something or having a bad game why are you playing it in the first place losing is as much part of the game as wining.
Also games you join as a replacement on normally a loosing team, i don’t want to be forced to play on not just a loosing team but a team being steamrolled,
ok how about this desert three games in a row and not be allowed to join a game for five minutes
The most frequent issue/complaint around that, that I’ve seen come up else where is people will get timed out for not purposely quitting. Again, due to life happening. I assume a large portion of enlisted’s playerbase is adults. Things come up all the time whether it’s a screaming kid, pet, angry girl friend, and don’t have the same luxuries as a young kid/teenager with zero responsibilities in daily life. So people will get kicked for being AFK but had every intention on returning soon. Getting kicked due to poor internet connection is also a big one and would count as a deliberate quit. My modem and router are in a small storage room underground encased in concrete. The signal is constantly in and out. I was lucky enough to be able to finally get hard wired but a lot of modern homes don’t have ethernet ports anymore and solely relies on wifi.
I for one agree with the original post for the most part. The one thing I would like to add/ clarify is that the more times/ more frequently you quit, the more that timer is going to rack up.
HOWEVER, by finishing games fully, and furthermore by WINNING, you can reduce that timer (should you end up quitting out of a game again.
At the end of each day, a portion of that timer will be removed.
OVERALL, if you quit out of games on occasion, rather than frequently, this will never even be an issue for you. HOWEVER, if you are the type of player to quit out frequently because you don’t like the map, the gamemode, whatever, you will see an increasing penalty.
HERE IS WHY.
I’ve seen numerous comments about how you “don’t want to waste your time playing a game you don’t enjoy”. NEWS FLASH, many players play through games they aren’t particularly have as favorites. They play through the game and on to the next, because you never know what might transpire in that game.
Those complaining about “well my team is always short on players”, well part of that is caused by players frequently QUITTING from that side. Stay in the game! There is always a chance that more players will join in, AND if they do, you all finish the game, and start a new one, and hopefully have them in the next game with you as well. Rather than starting up a bunch of extra games that players then get randomly thrown into, often times making the problem even worse!!!
At the very least I think it is something the devs should look into and run as a test for a while!
counterpoint, i ain’t sticking around when the entire team is dumber than bots.
as it is, if you want to lessened the amount of deserter, FIX THE GODDAMN SHITTY MM. I DON’T WANT TO FIGHT BR3 SHIT WITH BR1/2 STUFF, IT’S HARD AND NOT IN FUN WAY. it’s also not fun to use BR3 and then fight BR5 stuff. Well, it’s more exciting because the players there are leagues more competent, but it’s really tiring.
