Devs should finally move their lazy asses and make AI that does not suck. It doesn’t even need to be good, just not shit.
And please quit your “devs are aware” “devs are working on it” “AI is upgraded with each patch” BS.
For 3-4 years of development, state of AI is HORRENDOUS!!!
Yes, I’m angry can’t you tell.
Because AI is one of the reasons why I got interested in the game in the first place. And it turns out “command your AI squad” is basically a marketing lie. I’m babysitting lemmings that can’t even stand straight!
My god yes, like just make AI actually jump over obstacles and climb through windows, that alone would make a million times the difference.
I agree, the AI is the same state of the AI when I tried out this game more than a couple years ago, dont remember exactly when, but it was before the japanese or british anyway.
Give us a super simple radial menu to dictate squad formation too as well, like in warband, let us chose if we want the AI grouped up or spread out, Let us pic between circular, line/column, firing line or wedge/echelon. That is a bit more to ask for but would be greatly appreciated.
I cant imagine it is that hard to get AI to simple jump through windows or over fences, because I do see them do it rarely, but very rarely, no they rather run right into the active line of MG fire rather than go through the window.
That or maybe a feature where squad member either seek cover while your still or at least try to run a separate way when the man 2 meters in front of them is cut in half as he went around a corner.
Imagine how much could be achieved if they would stop worrying about graphics. Do they really think pretty graphics are going to smooth things over for bad gameplay mechanics?
I have also asked for this, but devs don’t seem to care.
Making pretty graphics is much easier than making good ai, and probably is worked on by people in a seperate department that doesn’t do anything with Ai
I do think the developers should focus more on optimization than improving graphics because my game has run way worse after the recent update
Maybe they could, the problem is that good AI programmers aren’t easy to find and aren’t cheap, even if money wasn’t the problem, finding one would be pretty hard, considering even big studios have a problem with creating sensible bots. And even if stars align, it would take some time for them to fix this mess, first they would need to untangle current code spaghetti and then maybe even beat the engine to shape to support such things.
From what I understand modders have already made improvements, perhaps paying them a reasonable commission to adapt their work into the main game.
Or if it is so complicated, I’m sure we would all like an update on their progress so far, ie,
“Hey guys, just a dev diary here, we heard you and AI improvements are in the works, but due to the game engine limitations we are going to have to build it up from the foundation”.
and later on once progress has been made,
“Hey guys remember how we said we are working on the AI, well good news, engine issues have been fixed so expect AI improvements in the future”.
Thats not phrased great, but a dev diary would be nice to see, like a fortnightly update on what the dev team is up to, what their working on, or if just not to expect a dev diary this week as most of the devs are on holiday or etc.
Well, if you don’t have a good AI programmer in the team, maybe you shouldn’t make a game with AI.
I have no idea what is happening inside the company but I can see that results are atrocious when it comes to AI so something needs a drastic change. I don’t know what exactly but that’s not my buisness as a customer.
To that I agree, they should make, maybe monthly, “AI Status” Dev Diary where they at least try to work on the AI, because while hard, it would at least show that they try and where they hit their skill/engine bottlenecks for the bots. They also could “borrow” or “get inspired” by some ideas and solutions from other games (like cover system in MoW). My earlier comments were about how they can’t just take graphical designers or hire more people to work on it, they (and by extension we) have to make due with what AI specialists they have currently.
tbf can you blame him? we all wanna straggle the AI sometimes, like im so used to getting the lone wolf battle award because of my AI just kamikazeing themselves.
While not good, their AI is not that terrible either. If I were to compare them to other AI’s in different games, they are about the same amount of stupid, just in other games those have improbable aim and spongy health, while our bots are gimped in accuracy department to not be too good, and they have the same health as players. Getting better from there requires some extra skills they might not have, or just engine doesn’t allow such advanced actions, but it’s either admitting their deficiencies or shitting on the publisher for inadequate engine.
They Should hire on the dude who made the AI in Shadow of Morder/Shadow of War. Or the dude who coded FEAR’s AI, those have been the best I’ve seen so far.
