The current rate of fire for the MG-42 is 820-900 rounds per minute. The 42 could have that rate of fire but the standard rate was about 1200 rounds per minute
could you imagine 1320 RPM mg42 because they have the tier 2 upgrade, it’s almost like they did it for balancing for both the user and the opponents talking about the current 900 rpm
I think that’s enough bullets for you.
But muh dakka
I mean does it matter? its current FR allows it to wipe whole squads in seconds, any more would just be a nerf since you would waste more ammo
you are kinda wrong and kinda righton this. while the MG42s default RoF at the beginning was 1200 rpm one part of the weapon 8dont know the english word) would often fail with this fire rate and it got changed in the war ending up at around 900 RPM.
I was thinking about this yesterday. Damned telepaths.
Anyway I agree. 1200 rpm would make it more realistic and would nerf it so I see no reason why not to do it (although some buff may be needed after that).
As far as I know 900 rpm was a post war modification for italian army.
I may be wrong there so another argument is that MG3 has 1200 rpm and it’s basically rechambered MG42 with some other modifications. So if they thought that 1200 rpm was too much then why would they continue to use that rof after the war?
You are probably thinking about out of battery detonation which wasn’t a problem as germany used steel casings for their ammo instead of “normal” brass ones.
I am speed
Right, it’s distinctive sound is cool, can’t appreciate it at the current ROF.
as the gun could in fact fire at the lower rate of fire and the fact that it would probably be unbalanced at that higher rate of fire, I think it’s fine to keep as is.
Considering the US doesnt even have the belt fed 1919 yet I’d say be happy you have the MG42 at all
I don’t think it would be unbalanced, or at least not in a way positive for a user.
It’s a matter of time until they will get it.
Not going to pretend to be an expert on this, but a quick look at wikipedia shows that the average fire rate was around 1200.
Though it is noted that the fire rate typically ranged between 1200 - 1500 rpm
That said I do remember reading about how they switched to a slower rate of fire variant later in the war, but I couldn’t find anything on wikipedia to support this claim.
I remember that there were even 1800 and 2200 rpm wariants for LW but I don’t remember details and I can’t find it.
I think you’re talking about the MG 45. Although none of them saw service
Imagine 2200 rpm on the reciving end. Dear god
Maybe this is the one I remember. But I’m not sure.
Well, you already die from 1-2 bullets so it doesn’t matter if you are hit with 15, 20 or 36 bullets in a second. (In game.)
But yeah, in real life even veterans would have their pants full.
