(Test Server) Lineup Balance Change

I posted on the Test Server feedback as well, but as another pointed, this deserves its own suggestion thread so here we go:

So, as I play, I’m finding that it is possible that with the new system, certain class types may need to get limitations on how many you can bring to the field, simply due to how powerful some of these squads are. Mainly Flamethrower and Paratrooper.

I would suggest making a category called Specialty Infantry (or something along those lines) for these and placing a limit similar to how we can only take so many vehicles and so many riders etc. Then placing these types of squads into said category.

For simplicity I would simply add Riders to the vehicle category, and make them more like [unarmored, but armed] scout vehicles … adding such things as jeeps with mgs and such to them.

This brings us to the adding of additional squad types. These should allow for any of the 3 classes to be equipped, but will no longer allow more than 2 of any type of specialty squad in the lineup (ie caps at 2 Flamethrower squads).

Here is what I was thinking of a possible solution. Adding such changes would increase the tactical decisions of what squads you bring to the battlefield as well:


Infantry Squads: (No Limit in Lineup (Like Current))

  • Rifleman
  • Assaulter
  • Sniper

Specialty Squads: (Limit 1 each in a lineup, 2 with premium) - any squad that has specialty upgrades within the squad (such as building stuff, artillery upgrades, etc) that are unique to the squad or class types that are not able to be added to another squad type (see mortars, flametroopers, etc.) [Edit: to clarify, Premium Engineer abilities would ignore this rule outside of their squad type … ie a Premium Assaulter would be an Infantry Squad, while a Premium Machine Gunner would be a Specialty Squad]

  • Engineer
  • Radio Operator
  • Machine Gunner
  • Flamethrower
  • Mortar
  • AT Gunner (Add Large AT Gun Build to Squad Engineer similar to HMG to Machine Gun Squads, otherwise move to standard infantry squad)*
  • Paratrooper

Vehicles: (Limit 2 each lineup, 3 with premium) - adding 1 to via adding rider to them, this also frees up free 2 play to have 2 vehicles should they choose, which would likely be well received.

  • Fighter
  • Attack Plane (CAS)
  • Rider (add Jeeps w/ 1919A4, Kübelwagens w/ MG34, Kurogane Type 95 w/ Type 99, GAZ-67 w/ DP28 as well as a M72 w/ sidecar for Russia and a Type 97 w/ sidecar for Japan etc.)
  • Tank

I generally like the idea:

1.) The number of total allowed squads slots does not line up with hypothetically available slots.

2.) I would just consider a limit of 1 per type for the speciality squads. This avoids your problem.

3.) I think riders in the current iteration are fine. They are so weak that them taking up a vehicle slot would mean nobody takes them except for pure madness.

4.) Vehicle limit should be 4 with premium, not 3.

So most problems would be avoided if speciality squads get a cap of 1 per match per type.

Its just too painful to select from 100+ squads. I had an idea about “create new squads” which I said days ago but I dont know if people will like them

they did acknowledge this and we will likely have a filter / sort feature added for that.

That would def simplify it a bit as well.

People who paid for premium squads would not be able to take them to battle.
And while i dislike premium spam this would not be ok.

Overall any unnecessart rules and restrictions are not good idea.
Squads like flamethrowers suffer from op nerf pls syndrome mostly because of bugged flames killing though walls and floors. They just need proper fixing not just 1.5s delay and call it a day.

That being said premium squad power creep is concerning, like 5 MG or 5 Flamethrowers squads should either have f2p equivalent (bad idea) or not be in game (to late, pandora’s box is open).
Just hope this trend doesn’t continue, p2w games are doomed to fail, and i’d rather see this game succeed.

What is stopping them from taking premium squads into battle? Premium squads would still be able to be used, just with restrictions of how many of certain types you could bring … ie no multiple machine gunners but yes to multiple assaulters. For Example, this loadout would still be possible to bring:

  • Premium Assaulter
  • Premium Assaulter
  • Premium Assaulter
  • Premium Radio Operator
  • Premium Flamethrower
  • Premium Machine Gunner
  • Premium Tank
  • Premium Fighter
  • Premium Attack Pilot
  • Premium Paratrooper

From my understanding and experience, they’ve mostly fixed flames going through walls and floors (other than some permeable / destructible ones). I’m arguing for balance purposes, this may be necessary for a better game experience.

Post merge 5 MG or 5 Flame will have f2p equivalent as most but not all nations as they will have merged into nation tech trees. The issue also comes into play for certain theaters:

Axis Europe F2P Flamethrowers for example will have access to

  • 2 from moscow
  • 2 from normandy
  • 2 from berlin
  • 1 from tunisia
  • 1 from stalingrad

Western Allies:

  • 2 from normandy
  • 1 from tunisia
  • 2 from pacific

Russia/Soviets:

  • 2 from moscow
  • 2 from berlin
  • 1 from stalingrad

Pacific Axis:

  • 2 from pacific

This leads to an imbalance alone, leading to one of the few reasons I put together this idea.

That would be a bigger problem than You think. Axis got so many premium MG squads. Why would someone thai PAID for those squad be unable to use them. Many people would have problem with that.
It would also mean less premium squad sales, so no no from gaijin

I’ve seen no difference after that fix, only real change was that 1.5s delay to catchin fire.
I’m still able to spay fire on one floor and burn everyone above, and people standing close to walls get damaged as well.

I meant squads with 5 MG in them, there are no f2p squads like that, yet somehow it’s not a problem.
But someone brings 3 MG squads with 3MG each that he grinded/paid for and it’s now a issue?

This is only good argument. Pacific axis will suffer, but not having 3rd flame squad won’t be biggest issue.

What i’m trying to say, put yourself in devs position. They offered those squads not just as reward for grind, but also for money. Premium squads or someone spaneding gold to unlock squad faster, even paying gold to level up those squads.
Taking away something players paid for would not look good, paying players could get mad. It also scares people from paying if something they pay for now could be taken away.

Now i understand Your concern, top BR will be awfull meta spam, but it already is like that.
I’m all for solutions, just not ones that limit players choices in game.

But with the upcoming BR … it is likely that those squads will have different BR’s anyway … so the use would be in having different presets for different BR’s

Even outside of that, the 10 squad limit already becomes a factor, even with the premiums that I own where I cannot equip them all now. I just alternate them as I want to play them, I don’t see it as a problem that I can’t equip all my bought squads at once…and its not stopping me from planning on future purchases either.

Not all players play the same, some could do that, some like me will bring PPT-27 to top BR just because i bought them to use them.

And there are already people complaining, first thing i saw when it was confirmed it would be 10 slot was people saying that they can’t bring all their squads and won’t buy more.

Some don’t mind, some do. Still paying player, and we all know snail love money
