Tank's surrounding awareness

So your crew is stupid enough that they can’t see the diference between enemy slodier and sandbags or tank trap?
In my opinion your idea is only stacking problems.

I think it would be unreasonable to the devs to demand a voice line for every possible building, enemy type (“oh he can see it’s a soldier but it can’t tell whether it has a radioman?”), tank type (“he can see tank, but not what type?”) building type (“oh he can see its a building but not what type?”) for each possible direction.

Most people here are on the milsim side anyways so I highly doubt you’ll see any support for a visual representation.

That’s why I suggest visual indicator.

Im recently playing RO2 again, it just has so much better at this.

RO2, or even RO1, has tank interior, so you can just watch outside through multiple windows as the real world.
Also, most roles can put their head out for a quick glance, not only the commander.
WT wont has this issue because its vehicle only, while Enlisted like RO2, are infantry with tanks, so it has to deal with more details of the world. Infantry is more flexible and easy to hide than WT’s tanks.

Then if it gets added, people will complain about it.
“why do tanks get a magic circle?”
or if it is limited
“why can it not see anything beyond X distance?”
“why can it tell me where it is, but not how far away?”
“why can it spot me despite me behing inside of a building? or not?”

Now this is what I was talking about. If you can quick swap to the commander and look around in the periscopes properly, would you still need sonar?

True. But without proper cupola and option to give fire command as a commander I can’t see better way to do this.
It’s minimal effort idea. I should have wrote this at the beginning.

Well, in RO2, we played together, in one tank. Though need some cooperation here, but muti human tank is the most effective tank gameplay. Also, in RO2, server can set AI’s level of tank, some servers allow tank AI to shoot, to drive. Still better than Enlisted one. WT dont have to deal with because it is vehicle vs vehicle, only main gun is used. But Enlisted should learn this from RO2.

Why would you do it half-baked, though?

Tanks can be operated by multiple players here too.

No that was a rethorical question towards the devs xd

Oh, now I understand.
(that is chaos I wrote about)

I would rather improve the existing viewing system in the first place before worrying about this.

While periscopes being immobile was mentioned, there’s also how transitioning between view ports should be much smoother, and that you should be able to wiggle around a bit when you’re looking out one.

How Post Scriptum handles them is very good.

Due to major errors in logical thinking I made, I decided to delete this post in less than hour. Thanks to all of the participants of the discussion.

imo they need a full interior and have the ability to directly look around, then with RMB smooth lock into the periscope you are closed to

I think we can just keep it here, let it be locked by @JagdEnte (I call upon you again oh almightly moderator kekw) so we can look back at it when this discussion flares up again.

whatever

I will let you guys vote, shall we keep the discussion open or want it closed?

Nevermind, thread closed.
