Suggestions for Japan tree

I’m a big fan of japanese weapons, and even if I like them, I must admit that their tree is lacking. I have some books about weapons, which also contain some informations on some prototypes and weapons that were produced in small quantities. I tried to find these weapons online and put some links after each weapon I post here, tell me what you think about it.

Also, maybe some topics like these were made before, but I’m just too lazy to search in all the topics.

Here we go:

Japan tree :

Rank 1 :

Pistols and revolvers :

-Type 26 revolver : https://www.forgottenweapons.com/japanese-type-26-revolver-video/

-Kuwabara revolver : Kuwabara revolver | Gun Wiki | Fandom

-Hino Komuro pistol (2 different calibers) : Japanese 1908 Hino-Komuro Pistol

-Nambu 1902 (Type A) « Grandpa Nambu » : Japanese Grandpa Nambu with Stock (Video)

-Nambu 1902 modified « Papa Nambu » : Japan’s Interim Handgun: The “Papa” Nambu

-Nambu Type B « Baby Nambu » : A Japanese Officer’s Pistol: the Baby Nambu

-Inagaki pistol : Inagaki pistol | Gun Wiki | Fandom

-Sugiura pistol (2 different calibers) : Sugiura pistol | Gun Wiki | Fandom

Rank 2 :

Pistols :

-North China Type 19 : North China Type 19: The Improved Nambu Pistol

-Nambu Type 14 (early) : Nambu Type 14 | Gun Wiki | Fandom

Bolt action rifles :

-Arisaka Type 44 : Type 44 Arisaka | Gun Wiki | Fandom

Rank 3 :

Pistols :

-Nambu 15-shot Type A Experimental : RIA: Nambu 15-Shot Type A Experimental

Sniper rifles :

-Arisaka Type 99 with 4x Nagoya scope : Type 99 Arisaka Sniper Rifles (Video)

Rank 5 :

Machine guns :

-Type 91 (type 11 for tanks) : 50 rounds + scope (predecessor of the Type 97 in japanese tanks, could be deployed by infantry)

No article, only pictures here and there : Type 91 (6.5 mm) - War Thunder Wiki (ironically, there is a War Thunder article)

-Type 89 : japanese copy of the Lewis, used by infantry (47 rounds only, 97 rounds being only for aviation, a normal buttstock could be adapted to replace the rear handle/stock) : Lewis - Modern Firearms

Notes, remarks, suggestions :

-A special version of the Type 99 for paratroopers, it could be a good premium/event, or even a basic tree squad of paratroopers, which the normal trees lack in game : Type 96, Type 99 - Modern Firearms

-Also : add scopes to the existing MGs and give them to snipers like the scoped Stg44 and Fg42

-PLEASE MAKE THE HULL GUNNER SHOOT AUTOMATICALLY FOR THE TANKS, it could partially resolve the problem of the japanese tanks that have no coaxial MG : for example, you direct the hull on one side, the AI shoots automatically while you are shooting with the main gun and the coaxial MG on another side ; and introduce this feature to all MGs that are not coaxial, like the MGs on the side or the rear of the turret on some tanks : most japanese tanks have a MG at the rear or on the side of the turret, and some soviet tanks too, and give the possibility to control manually these MGs.

-Also, give the HE shells to the Ha-Go tank, and the other japanese tanks with the same main gun, they had one historically, and these tanks are absolutely awful for anti-personnel duty compared to the americans, because most of them don’t have a coaxial MG, and don’t have the feature I mentioned above that I would like to see.

Suggestions of APCs and bikes :

-Type 98 Ko-Hi (a short and a long version) : Type 98 Ko-Hi - Wikipedia

https://www.wardrawings.be/WW2/Files/1-Vehicles/Axis/3-Japan/08-Halftracks/Others/File/Others.htm

-Type 98 So-Da : Type 98 So-Da Armored Personnel and Ammo Carrier

-Type 1 Ho-Ki : Type 1 Ho-Ki Artillery Prime Mover & Armored Personnel Carrier

-Some trucks : Trucks

-Some motorcycles : Motorcycles

And to finish, here are some mortars :

-Type 10 knee mortar : Japanese Type 10 Light Grenade Projector (aka Knee Mortar)

-Type 11 70 mm mortar : Type 11 70 mm Infantry Mortar | Military Wiki | Fandom

-Type 97 81 mm mortar : Type 97 81 mm infantry mortar | Military Wiki | Fandom

-Type 99 81 mm mortar : Type 99 81 mm mortar | Military Wiki | Fandom

-Type 3 81 mm mortar (couldn’t find any pictures of this one) : Type 3 81 mm Mortar | Military Wiki | Fandom

Maybe I will do another part about the tanks and aircrafts later.

Thanks for reading !

What do you think about all these suggestions ?

Japanese snipers desperately need strong weapons but I would prefer MGs to stay gunner weapons, fg42 is battlerifle not mg and every assaulter carrying scoped stg44 would have been too OP.

Only if there is nothing else left to add, pick some lighter Japanese MGs with fire selector and scope.

I found this interesting quote about the Type 99 : “These were often issued to the best marksmen of the unit and occasionally employed like a sniper rifle” (Sniper rifle - Wikipedia).
Even if this quote is not 100% reliable, the fact that you could put a scope and a bayonet on the gun makes me think that it was probably intended to be used as some kind of “fat semi-auto rifle”, just like the Chauchat during WWI, or even the Breda LMG for the italians during WW2. And the fact that the Stg and Fg are available to the german sniper class makes me think it could be a good suggestion.

But anyway, there is still the Type 99 with the 4x scope that I found, could be an idea too.

Also, it’s weird that some of the links I put appear as large boxes, and others as text, but all are links to articles and pictures, so don’t miss them !

I hope those snipers don’t hide behind the whole thing with sniper rifles
That won’t help the battle.
Just want me to set them on fire with a flamethrower

A good sniper becomes a brave commando when needed

Also, I already knew about this gun, but I didn’t find any pictures of it before, so I didn’t search, but here I found the first picture of it today: the Type 4 tank machine gun. It stayed at the prototype stage, it was meant to replace the Type 97 in the tank MG role, because, just like in the game, a 20 round magazine MG is pretty meh in the role of tank MG. It never entered production, but it was belt-fed, sooooooooo, if you really want a rank 5 MG to compete with the M1919A6, go watch there: https://www.reddit.com/r/ForgottenWeapons/comments/16oh3n8/japanese_type_4_77mm_tank_machine_gun_made_and/?rdt=46273
Also, I might do some tanks proposals soon.

Here are my suggestions for Tanks of rank 1, basically, what I did was putting all the the tanks that had a 37 mm gun or a short 57 mm gun as their main armament in rank 1, here you go:

Tanks :

Rank 1 :

-Type 92 Heavy Armoured Car (version with the 13,2 mm hull mounted MG, some sources say that some vehicles replaced it with a 20 mm gun, and that others were had been equipped with a hull-mounted 37 mm, but I could not find pictures or documentation about these two types) : Type 92 Jyu-Sokosha Heavy Armored Car (Tankette)

-Type 97 Te-Ke : Type 97 Te-Ke Light Armored Car

-Type 98B Ke-Ni Otsu (prototype with Christie suspension) :

-Type 2 Ke-To : Type 2 Ke-To Light Tank

-Type 3 Ke-Ri : Type 95 Ha-Go Light Tank

-Type 4 Ke-Nu (there’s a bit of confusion about the name of this one) : Type 4 Ke-Nu Light Tank

-Type 89 I-Go Chi-Ro : Type 89 Chi-Ro Medium Tank

-Type 97 Chi-Ni (basically the competitor of the Chi-Ha) : Type 97 Chi-Ha Medium Tank

Also, I think it would be better if they could replace the Type 97 Chi-Ha premium squad in-game with one of those tanks that I proposed, because it is really weird to see such an iconic vehicle being only a premium. So I think they could find a good replacement for it in all the vehicles that I suggested.

When browsing on the internet, I found by chance a picture of the Type 3 81 mm mortar here: https://www.lonesentry.com/ordnance/tag/japanese/page/6/
Scroll through the page and you will find it. That gives us 3 options for 81 mm mortars for Japan.
I will do the rest of the tanks when I have time.

So, little update about this topic: when I searched for pictures of obscure guns, as I often do, I found a website of modelling (I think we say that ? Sorry, english is not my main language) and I found a really good model made by some japanese guy of the Type 4 prototype vehicle machine gun. I hadn’t put it in my suggestions list before because I could only find one pic of it, but the model made by the guy seems pretty detailed, here is the link:

It could be a good addition to the japanese tree for a tier 5 belt-fed MG. And the fact that the Tokyo Arsenal SMG in-game was probably modelled after a replica means that it could be a legit candidate. You can slap a bipod on it, and you have a decent and “believable” tier 5 MG.

Also, I don’t think I am the only one to not really like the Type 100 MG. I could not find ANY picture of the “thing” that is in the game with one pistol grip and a normal buttstock, so: what I propose is to replace the Type 100 MG with the Type 4 MG, OR at least, give the Type 100 MG its real look with the twin pistol grips and the shoulder rest, just like here:

The two triggers were linked, so it wouldn’t be impossible to fire the twin guns while pressing only one trigger. Changing the model of the Type 100 MG to the original design would make a “believable” last-ditch weapon, because the weird model in-game is really not convincing.

I also saw some time ago on another topic that apparently when the japanese tested their semi-auto rifles (Ko, Otsu and Hei), all these rifle had a long and short versions of them. The Type Hei in-game in the tree might be the short version ? And the Type Hei (late) in the battle pass weapons might be the long version ?
But it also applies to the Type Ko rifle: the premium squad in-game is equipped with the long version, so you could potentially put the short version of this rifle in the tree, before the Type 4 rifle, because the Type Ko had a lower caliber than the Type 4, but they both had a 10 round capacity. You can compare the pics of the two versions of the rifle here:

I could not find any pictures of other Otsu rifle versions than the one we have in-game however, maybe because it might have been the one that was the least produced, and the fact that it was the worst between the three contenders.
