There’s no difference for MM if your whole line up is BR 1 or BR2. You’ll end up in BR 1-3 queue anyway.

Well, is it though? The MM should work in a way to first try to create a match with only the same BR - only when that doesn’t work should it mix BRs.

Have you ever seen match made up only of one BR? I did not.
On other hand, I have experienced matches BR 2 - 5.

that is true - or at least I also believe this to be the case, but I would argue that this shouldn’t be the case

Absolutely ! The Su-85 was in-serivce in August 1943, a few months before the T-34-85 D-5T was even manufactured in Feb-March '44. So yeah I agree if the T-34-85 D-5T is BR4 then the Su-85 should be at least the same, if not lower. But then I don’t think they BR’d the vehicles by these metrics, they just got spread out a bit from the core campaign they were linked to.
