who leave game types they don’t like, or give them the option to choose what games they join. I’m not talking about people rage quitting part way through a match, but there are some game types people just don’t like, and forcing them to play them or suffer consequences is stupid.
For example, I hate Conquest. Some people like it, but to me it’s a pointless, boring exercise, and I won’t play a game that is not fun from the outset - as soon as the Conquest splash screen comes up I’m hitting the ESC key as fast as I can. However at the moment I have the choice between playing a game type I hate, or being punished for not playing a game type I hate.
Do you think this is going to make me recommend this game to friends, or spend money on it myself? It’s an absurd mechanic that does not engender good will towards the game or developers, and it will cost you money.
The only punishment for the kind of quitting you talked about( quit when seeing game type they don’t like) is only drop 1 rank.
It is really not a big deal lol.
If you are deserting so frequently that your rank is significantly effected (especially with how easy it is to GAIN rank), then there is reason to punish players.
I get that you only want to play “fun games”, but for the sake of everyone, sometimes you have to play maps that you don’t necessarily love.
Quitting out of conquest games I get entirely.
Quitting out of train escort games I get.
Even those however aren’t popping up so frequently that you are quitting and losing significant rank.
As far as OTHER games, then by all means, you SHOULD lose RANK if you simply not playing them.
Rank is not something you should just get by default, it should be obtained by playing games under the same circumstances as others.
So if you are opting to ONLY play games that you deem as “fun”, you are not meeting the criteria of “playing games under the same circumstances as others”. Rather you are only playing select games.
I’ll write it down for you.
These people need to find another game.
Not because they don’t fill the games criteria, but because the games doesn’t fit their creteria of fun.
It’s the game that is supposed to entertain the player, not the player to entertain the game.
Conquest mission are great! I keep anti-personnel mines on all my soldiers just in case that game mode pops up. They are actually pretty easy to win since most of the opposite team will leave the match as soon as it starts like you do, or they will get fed up getting squad wiped by a half dozen trip mines I scatter around every objective point.
I think some of the game modes like Conquest require a little more patience, but that is yet again down to the player to either accept the challenge or just dishonorably quit and leave the rest of their team down one human player.
Maybe give deserters a 0.2% XP penalty for their next game, like you get when you start a custom game with all bots.
rank is not important, it’s really just a dumb status symbol, though when I get my ass handed to me by the enemy team gold ranks like marshals, I scream at my computer in rage. and also slam my mouse on desk.
Rank doesn’t mean anything, anyone can farm Marshall in Tunisia allies.
Event profile pictures are also more rare and prestigious than the dumb allied commander pics.
