Soviet VS Japonese Map

Sakhalin before ww2 was split between the Soviets and the Japanese, Northern Sakhalin was Soviet Controlled, and Southern Sakhalin was controlled by the Japanese, just before ww2 ended Soviets took over the Southern part of Sakhalin Island. Until the Soviet Invasion, South Sakhalin was a peaceful island that faced minor impact during the World War II. Yet, on 11 August 1945 , South Sakhalin was invaded by the Soviet Union, which had abandoned the Soviet-Japanese Neutrality Pact to join the war against Japan.

Honestly, as a Russian by blood, I think Japan should stop complaining about all the territory and stuff they lost because currently, they Deny all the war crimes they committed in WW2. So they are hypocrites

Sakhalin is not part of the Japanese Archipelago, and the Soviets didn’t land on the Kurils during the war.

No, that plan never went ahead, and the Kurils (referring to Kunashir and Iturup because those are the only ones you can even argue are part of the Japanese archipelago) were effectively handed over to the Soviets. The rest of the Kuril Island chain may or may not have seen some fighting, (I have seen conflicting reports about this), but from what I read most of them were bloodlessly handed over to the soviets following Hirohito’s declaration of surrender.

ok, you are correct about the Kuril islands invasion never happening, But south Sakhalin was indeed invaded by the soviets. but what is funny, is how japan today wants its Kuril islands back as if they never handed them over to the Soviets. the modern Japanese government is hypocritical.

The Kurils were handed over like Okinawa, and they are a lot closer to the Japanese mainland than Okinawa. It’s understandable they would want them back, as it’s probably not a good idea to let a hostile power have territory so close to your homeland. Kind of like why Russia want Ukraine out of the picture.

I don’t think you have looked into the JSDF’s budget recently.

Let’s not get political here shall we
