The Bolsheviks actually had more support (although not overwhelming) before the Constituent Assembly.
The advantage of the Bolsheviks in the northern region seems insignificant:
40% vs. 38%. However, this area includes both non-industrial and industrial zones, with the Social Revolutionary Party having an advantage in the non-industrial zones (Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Novgorod, Pskov),
In industrial areas, the situation is:
In the capital city of Petrograd, the Bolsheviks received 45% of the vote and the Social Revolutionary Party members received 16%; In Petrograd Province, 50% of Bolsheviks and 26% of Social Revolutionary Party members; In Rivland Province, the Bolsheviks received 72% of the votes, while members of the Social Revolutionary Party received zero votes.
In the provinces of the central industrial region:
In Moscow Province, Bolsheviks received 56% of the vote and members of the Social Revolutionary Party received 25%; In the Moscow Capital District, Bolsheviks receive 50% and members of the Social Revolutionary Party receive 8%; In Tville Province, the Bolsheviks received 54% and the Social Revolutionary Party received 39%; In the province of Vladimir, Bolsheviks received 56% and members of the Social Revolutionary Party received 32%.
That’s debatable, but the thing is, the people of Russia were going to decide the future of Russia, but the Bolsheviks just dispersed the Assembly and seized power by force. Not cool.
Let’s.
Besides “hurr durr Russia bad”, would anyone prefer living under Nazi occupation over getting liberated (by the cost of Soviet lives) but getting a socialist government afterwards? (no, full freedom was never an option for small nations in 1940s)
