Great that you know what I’m talking about.
I agree about defenders though Id argue thats also every map. My squadmate and I often complain how we spawn as defenders and are instantly under attack. There’s never enough time to set up any sort of defence, in terms of strategy or constructions.
I believe defenders should spawn on the actual objective rather than having to run all the way there so the enemy is arriving at the same time or even before. Likewise I believe there should be a countdown even if only 1 minute to prepare defences before the enemy is allowed attack. How wisely players use that time would be up to them.
Both you Admiral_Wenli and @Bridge_of_sighs4-psn 100% agree that Pacific maps are great aesthetically but terrible for gameplay.
It’s like someone went to the Solomon Islands (Ive been there myself including Munda), took lots of photos, and came home and replicated the scenery really well but completely forgot they were making a FPS.
Pacific as stated has some of the worst greyzones that just dont make sense, forcing you a certain way.
Ive commented on guerillas using speedboats before. People complained that would be OP which I understand the argument. But the whole point of guerillas/commandoes (both in game and irl) is to flank and attack the enemy’s lines from behind, allowing the main force to proceed.
Say there’s a tank blocking the only road to an island objective and your team cant destroy it, you could flank as guerillas and blow it up.
Even for regular troops the fact the ocean is largely greyzoned means its difficult to maneuver boats (remember they are very awkward to drive). Ford GPAs seem to just spin around and around when in the water.
For myself Id like to see complete redesigns of most Pacific maps. Focus more on real life battles.
One of the things about Gavutu I believe it is, the island hopping is too squashed imo. Myself and others have previously suggested having objectives on whole other islands where the attackers have to use Higgins boats/LSTs or Daihatsu barges respectively to cross the water. The tank or plane slot is automatically swapped to a naval squad with PT boats or armed speedboats to harass the landing force.
The APC could auto swap from the Studebaker truck to the DUKW. (I believe the Japanese had a similar DUKW style amphibious APC)
@VonuhLikesCakes It could be. I think you’re right if its the one where there’s a ‘saloon’ and you run over a hill and get to the area I described.
