They didn’t have design flaws of previous versions, that is what I meant. I have to agree that german procuction quality dropped rapidly at the end of the war.
The Tiger I wasn’t sloped either.
iirc sloping just isn’t always practical to design between weight, layout, and ergonomics, so it wasn’t as desirable as people like to think.
I think there are ways of doing it - like giving vehicles (or anything really - unreliable guns for example) a certain "life (minutes of gameplay, shots fired…) after which they start having a RNG chance of breaking down.
You can reset the life by performing “maintenance” - which would involve not using it for some time - kind of like the Academy.
I’d add things like - if it breaks down in a game and you lose the game then it is a permanent loss and you have to buy a new one - although you might have a choice of a brand spanking new one or one from a reconditioning depot - which is cheaper but starts with less “guaranteed” trouble free life.
So the player gets to decide how much trade-off s/he wants to make between availability and reliability…
Lots of things can be done with a bit of imagination
It could work but I don’t think adding more RNG is a good thing. Especialy RNG in battle would be horrible.
Although saying that, we have RNG based weapon malfunction system, and tbh I like it (strangely enough). So I guess if you could make vehicle malfunction system that is annoying but doesn’t kill you (indirectly) then it may work.
I have strange feeling we diverted from the main topic a bit too much
Except that is 100% what their intended use was, as the PTRDs were only barely making it through. The sideskirts made the tanks immune against PTRDs.
The better side armor could not be applied to Pz3s and Pz4s because it would require a redesign of the entire hull, suspension and transmission, as I said.
Except they did. They captured PTRDs, fired at armor plates, and figured out it could penetrate the side armor of the Pz3/4 but not if there was this thin extra plate of armor.
More armor = more weight. Even they knew that. Hitler just didn’t care with the later tanks.
incidential benefit of the sideskirts.
Germany found out that sloping the front was worth the sacrifice.
Soviet union found out that sloping the sides was not worth the sacrifice. (See T-44)
Yeah, I never said to was intentional it’s just fact that the side skirts help a lot against HEAT and HE war heads. And if it doesn’t “Destroy” the war head it lower the effectiveness by the amount of air/metal between the tank and the side skirt
