With this class I think I’ll put an end to the “mine spam” drama once and for all, except for engineers, AT soldiers and this class (their squad will be small like the guerrillas) will be the only ones capable of placing mines, in addition to the fact that this class could have access to explosives and mines that in general could NOT be had in a normal way and could be accommodated in AT or engineer squad compositions and the class should have some exclusive buildings with their engie like ladders or bridges
considering the concept of such class - i feel like the game would benefit from a dedicated unit that can blow up obstacles like barbed wire, barriers, vehicle wrecks and such.
such “sappers” could get special demolition charges that can blow up even tank wreckages.
there is a reason why many players build tank barriers even inside of buildings, because AI soldiers cant deal with such obstacles
It’s so annoying this exploit hasn’t been fixed for so long.
till they can give us something who can survive few direct tank hits…
Wut?
I find amusing how this kind of people always find a way to trash on tanks. Even if it means justifying low skill exploits that are ruining the game.
Copy+paste Engineer with at best some flavor of Bomber?
Wow.
isnt sapper just another word for engineer and thus making it redundant class?
Fact of the matter is if you want to properly block off a doorway, a hedgehog will do better than a sandbag. That’s just how it is. Sandbag takes a single AP round or explosion pack and it’s gone. Done. Kaput. Hedgehog is indestructible unless you walk up and manually demolish it. It’s just playing with what you got. We can either use worthless trash, or valuable gold. To be honest I don’t really care how it affects AI. I’m trying to keep players out of objective, and this is the best tool for it
Kinda sorta not really. Engineer in this sense is a catch all term. Support, hindrance, offensive, defensive, doesn’t matter
A sapper is explicitly an offensive hindrance. I don’t know if this is their “origin” or not, but what a “sapper” is most well known for in history is digging under an enemy wall and causing it to collapse. Often by lighting a fire that burns all the wooden supports they used to dig the hole in the first place that forces the hole to collapse, and thus take a chunk of the wall with it
Yes.
Because it is exploited for something that’s never been intention of such structure.
It is permanently blocking AI pathfinding. And there’s no other way how to destroy it other than manually.
It’s not like those people are using for blocking tanks.
Building hedgehogs just shouldn’t be possible inside of buildings. And it has nothing to do with tanks at all.
I was entirely unaware of that nor did I care about that until this thread. I’m trying to keep players from walking in that door. AI getting screwed is just a side effect not even note worthy
I am, actually. Harder to hit the back wall of the building and kill everyone when the shell near harmlessly hits the metal hedgehog and the shrapnel doesn’t enter the room. Very effective at that. More effective than keeping people from walking in around it even
Once again, do I choose a sandbag that was added to the game for this exact purpose but I need to rebuild every single time it’s shot to do its job, or do I build a hedgehog that will eat every single shell a tank can throw at it and ask for more?
Sounds to me the AI should be taught how to get around obstacles, or the sandbag should be majorly buffed, rather than our only truly effective means of blocking off a doorway to player and HE onslaught be taken away
Wow, exploits are effective? Who would have expected something like that.
I know this may surprise you. But that’s kinda the point. You’re not supposed to be able to do something like that. That’s why the sandbags are destructible. And that’s why putting hedgehogs in buildings is an obvious exploit.
But why do I even bother, lol…
Look man you and I agree on many things. This just ain’t one. I honestly can’t care what the AI does or doesn’t do. They’re all stupid until one randomly 180 domes you through a bush. I want to prevent HE and people from getting into point. So, I make it annoying for players to enter through the doorway and I make it so HE shells are stopped. I don’t want to have to sit in a corner and baby my Engie so I can keep building the sandbag over and over and over again. Either DF can give me a method that’s about as effective, or they can make buildings dead zones for building like you want. I’d love a more “realistic” method of blocking up doorways that’s effective at doing so. Till then, I’m gonna do what’s most helpful for my team
Like a Bangalore torpedo?
it is synonym for engineer, but is used in british and ex british colonies as term for engineer. alternative would be pioneer for ex soviet countries.
Ah was unaware of them being completely synonymous. Knew they were basically the same thing, but thought “sapper” was a more specific term for a certain kind
Well one could then call them assault engineers instead, and give them SMGs for example - a small powerful squad that blows obstacles up, specialises in mines and building some special assault structures like ladders - now also give them mine detectors of some sort and you would have a useful meta unit.
Mmm SMG Engies
Well, assault engineers at least were a real thing, soviets gave them PPSH and body armor, German pioneers often late into the war got STGs - its just that usually those “sappers” were not simply specialised technicians, but often the most promising combat units aswell.
Kinda like commandos so to speak
Mines in buildings should not be invisible they would be on or under the floor not inside, on top they would be clearly visible, under well how did you place them with the floor in the way or miss the giant hole created to place theml
