Not everything will be foldered. I am sure their goal is to eventually make every tree as full as the german one. Other countries often only have a single weapon in its tier. No way they are just going to folder additional weapons into it.
And it is downright impossible for new types of items. Case in point, the new APC.
I was not saying my progress would be reset. I was saying that instead of getting to play with my desired tank “soon” I am now thrown way back in my progress and have to grind the other one first, so I have to play more matches than anticipated. So instead of feeling happy about new content it will instead be a source of disappointment for the few players that happen to be affected.
It won’t happen often but players have already complained about the unintuitive nature of having BR X weapons in Tier Y.
It’s not unlikely that a somewhat huge restructuring will come at some point and bring each item into its proper tier.
Let’s get this straight, I am not whining or complaining. Yes, I would profit from a removal and, yes, I am a bit aggrevated at having to now grind more than 300000XP to finish researching my “almost finished” FG42.
But I can deal with that.
My point was that at some point in the future, when the merge chaos has settled down and legacy players are not the majority anymore, it makes no sense to keep the requirement.
This is really not a personal issue for me.
Please, usually I’d be right with you at dismantling armchair programmers saying game dev is super easy but this is a very reasonable educated guess.
Everything within the UI points to the requirement message only being an afterthought. I can still finish researching my premerge items although I won’t be able to buy them. I can even start researching new items if the previous one is unlocked.
Why not grey out (or “red out”) anything that I couldn’t even buy later anyway?
It seems like they intially wanted to copy the Warthunder tech trees, which doesn’t have any of these research requirements, and they only tacked that message on afterwards for whatever reason.
The 5 minute thing was a bit of a hyperbole but let’s not act like this change would significantly detract from any development time.
