Hey. So Gaijin recently tested a massive buff to Machine Guns by removing the movement dispersion penalty (whilst aiming down sights) on the RD-44. On its own, this buff is pretty ridiculous, as the RD-44 was already the best Machine Gun in the game (it has only a 20% movement reduction as opposed to most MGs with 50% or more).
Now it has 0. And I would love for this to become the norm for all machine guns. There are currently only 2 MGs (not counting fake-MGs like the Federov MG or the Type Hei LMG) that have no moving dispersion penalty, being the RD-44 and Vickers Berthier. At the very least, “Machine Guns” like the BAR should have this penalty removed, as they are basically “big assault rifles” in form, function, and how they play in game. But I do believe that with MGs having a movement speed decrease, and the current state of the RD-44, MGs can have no penalty to their dispersion while aiming down sights and moving.
Agreed, this should definitely be removed on the BAR (and it’s derivatives) plus the KE7, Johnson LMG, RPK 1943, Charlton (buff the reload on it too it feels like I’m in slow mo), and WAR, plus anything else I forgot
It would feel a little ridiculous to have it on the heavier machine guns IMO, but anything with =< 70% move speed should have no aiming dispersion if it’s light enough to go that fast with
I agree, dispersion is such an awful mechanic. I can get behind it being bad (especially for MGs) when hipfired, but ADS should not have that.
Tbh I would love to see MGs broken out between Light MGs (BAR/RD-44/KE7/Johnson) and Medium MGs (think MG42/1919A6/MaxTok). Then give MMGs back the Stalingrad stamina drain when ADS to prevent them from being too strong. LMGs would not have it or have a significantly slower drain to support their different role. But again, remove the ADS movement dispersion penalty across the board.
I don’t like the idea. Heavier MGs shouldn’t be fired from shoulder while moving.
If you want to remove dispersion, there should be something else implemented to serve this function.
A lot of guns with high dispersion (smgs in particular) are already pretty limited in their range due to their velocity, especially when shooting at moving targets. Not unusable, but still definitely suboptimal and harder to hit people with. I think reducing their dispersion wouldn’t automatically make them broken at range, they would probably be fine and just feel more consistent to use - and still outclassed by other weapons for longer ranges. I won’t deny they could possibly still need a recoil change though, which I wouldn’t be opposed to since high recoil low dispersion weapons feel better than high dispersion low recoil imo.
Then why not simply give MGs a movement speed penalty when aiming, instead of magically making your shots travel through “space time 6th dimension”?
I mean isn’t that the actual problem with MGs realistically speaking? That you can’t run and gun? Then why not simply nerf the “run” part instead of the “gun” part?
