I’ve noticed that it doesn’t really matter who’s 20 mm you are using, Same goes for 30 mm, sometimes planes seem to soak up an awful lot of them.

Supposedly the aircraft were given more appropriate ammunition chains to make these cannons more lethal but I’ve not really noticed it.

I’m not too sure how they’re working this, I don’t know how accurate their models are, The Allied Hispanos for the first part of the war fire just ball ammunition for the most part, later in the war they started to use chains that were made up of different types of rounds, so I don’t know if the 20 mm over Tunisia are just firing ball ammunition or if they’re firing a mixed chain.

Throughout the war the Germans would use a mix chain with high explosive ammunition armour piercing/tracer et cetera.

The Italians used mixed chains as well for their 12.7 mm rounds, but again I’m not too sure how good the model is, the Allied 12.7 mm wood primarily just fire ball or AP.

The high explosive ammunition should be effective no matter what the distances, and this is another part of the game I’m not too familiar with I don’t know if they’re modelling a decrease in penetration or affect dependent on the range, This should be a thing for AP or a ball ammunition but not for HE.

The picture above can be somewhat misleading because a lot of destructive energy is carried to the target in the high explosive rounds, The type 99 ammunition for example had a potential effect on target that was comparable to the Hispano firing ball ammunition, but the relative sizes of the rounds might suggest otherwise.

I think there are definitely some desinc issues in the air to air combat.

One thing I often notice is that my plane is damaged and I have not heard anything in my headphones, sometimes I hear the plane taking damage sometimes I won’t.

I think sometimes we see our rounds hitting the enemy but we don’t know that they’re actually hurting the Airplane

i have noticed that the american p38 20mm has some insane damage to the point where it consistently one shots

I can’t say that I’ve noticed that, the only place I currently use the P38 is In Normandy but I don’t play Normandy very often only when the daily makes me go there.

The US manufactured Hispano cannons were so notoriously unreliable due to manufacturing flaws that they were often removed entirely from the P 38.
