Ammo box would be an item mainly taking the place of the “mines”. It’d be a placeable ammobox for a limited amount of ammo refills.
The current placeable ammocrates are only placed by Engineer class soldiers, which is of course normal but sometimes people don’t tend to have Engineers in battles, or some Engineer players don’t really care about placing ammocrates.
Those ammo boxes would really help to solve the issues of running out of ammo in a fixed position… And to be honest… It’s not uncommon for snipers to run out of ammo, forcing them to go to a frontline and find an ammocrate. Machinegunners also had soldiers in the crew carrying an ammo box. One ammobox could atleast allow atleast 3 refills of ammo. For sure would be commonly used by campers, but I think it’s still something we need for succesful defenses.
Well, that’s their choice right?
If they willingly refuse to bring engineers to battle then it’s their fault when they run out of ammo. Just make sure that to have at least one engie in each of your squads (and preferably dedicated engineer squad in your setup) and ignore the rest.
That especially applies to all the situations you mentioned:
-snipers firing from the fixed position in The distance - they should have no problem with bringing engineer and setting few mamo boxes
-LMGs same as before
-defence also relies mostly on engineers that setup rallies, sandbags and barbed wire. Why don’t take few seconds to set up an ammo create?
Imo it’s not the game’s fault that players do not use the tools that are given to them and such item is not necessary in Enlisted.
That’s the issue, you have to look out for the Engineer, and while the AI controls them, they’re really stupid they get themselves killed pretty quick.
Not a problem in any situations that OP mentioned.
And you can also spawn as said engineer so he doesn’t die first if you want to blame it on AI. Just place the ammo crate and go for the class you wanted to play.
Or bring more engineers - most squad allow you to get 2 of them. And you can have 6 in dedicated engineer squads.
yeah, I myself don’t fully agree with OP. And imo ammo isn’t that big of a deal, as large ammo pouches exist.
Would be cool to see this crate as a unique mg gunner item though. As with mgs you actually run out of ammo, and most of the time have no way to refill it. As you can’t go back to spawn, where oyu could safely build without losing your squad, and your engineer is of course dead by that point. (though I don’t mind it, as it forces me out of my comfort zone to use random weapons off the ground)
I also don’t like bringing 2 engineers, as I like more variety, and since I’m a f2p that mains Moscow axis, I don’t often bring engi squads either, as no SF rifle makes them fairly weak compared to the other options around.
We already have ammo bags… so instead of taking the box, throwing it on the ground then picking back ammo from it (?) Boom, ammo bag saves me the trouble!
Or you know… an engineer can “throw” an ammo crate on the ground too…
I could agree on assistant gunner mechanics and such dedicated soldiers carrying some more ammo specificaly for LMG. But it could be (sadly) too complicated for the game like Enlisted.
But what OP described, so each soldier with possibility to drop yet another way to resupply ammo in addition to already existing ammo pouches and ammo crates is a no from me.

Honestly though ot supplement the system, I wouldn’t mind something like OP said for MG gunner only that takes up the backpack slot. So it would take more time to refill, but you could get more out of it. It could be nice if it was also introduced with actually usable bipod machanics to make mid range for mgs more viable.
