Nothing has been done about Soviet body armor despite it being the biggest balance issue of the entire game - just give it a simple movement speed penalty and people will think twice if they want to trade their speed for extra survivability.
I would prefer they just removed it. I use very few squads with body armor, I just think it looks cheesy, and I like nice tidy uniforms. This is basically 80% of my Soviet squads right here.
Cosmetics should have no impact on gameplay, either remove all effects or turn breastplates into backpack slot item with appropriate buffs and debuffs (I’ll happily make a list of them, just a little tired at the moment do it here and now).
I preffer them staying cosmetics only, because I do want similar options for Commonwealth troops in Europe who historicly used body armour to the same extent (or greater, depending on the maths used) to the Soviets, but I don’t want them in places outside of Europe where they were never used.
I just think it takes effort to implement armor in such way - simply giving it a simple movement speed penalty will be a easy fix for the time being, or at least I suspect so… I am obviously no game dev.
You’re probably right, but since they gave “ONE FACTION” and “ONE FACTION” only body armor, if they are not going to remove it then their is absolutely no excuse not to offer it to “EVERY OTHER FACTION”. One faction in this game gets body armor, and one faction in this game gets a paratrooper squad with unlocked weapons, coincidence?
