Knowing where the shells are landing isn’t the point. Identifying pockets of enemies, frequented routes, aiming AHEAD of where they are when they are moving (considering the long time to impact) is where the skill lies.
I see it all the time! People always run straight at the middle, and its not even bots!
In addition, many times I see players pop down an ammo box, throw a smoke grenade at the end of the hallway, and proceed to shoot randomly at the entrance with SMGs.
Personally, I understand flanking, but I’d say at least 50% of the playerbase does NOT.

With over 5000 mortar kills in Pacific, I’ve quit using them… Obj are being captured so fast now that there’s very little time to set up ammo crates and fire effectively - it becomes a race against shifting battle lines.
That’s one of the reasons I am suggesting the mortar nest structure. So that someone doesn’t necessarily need to mess with setting up multiple ammo crates and having to repeatedly stop to grab ammo and readjust their aim.
Secondly its to make use of the second mortarman in the squad, making the fire support more effective.
Note: Mortars are used in more than just Pacific.
