Mortar Additions

First, add a third Mortar soldier to the squad. Most specialist squads have 3 of their titular class.

Second, add missing light and medium mortars into the Research Tree

US: M1 Mortar

UK: Ordnance ML 3-inch Mortar

Germany: Granatwerfer 34

Italy: Brixia Model 35

Mortaio de 81/14 Modello 35

Japan: Type 97 Mortar

Third, add Heavy Mortars as the squad’s unique building

US: M2 4.2-inch Mortar

UK: Ordnance ML 4.2-inch Mortar

USSR: 120-PM-38

Germany: Granatwerfer 42

I don,t thik we need more mortar models, Still mortar squad has whole need some buff.

I sujest we allow the mortar squad to deploy a AA gun. since they will be perfect to operated it.

note, you can aleardy in game use Mortar and AA, unsing a Paratrooper squad.

While an AA gun is a good suggestion for them, I however would still like to see the addition of everyone’s medium calibre mortars as well as the heavier mortars too in the form of buildings. Perhaps like with the AT guns, the medium mortar could be buildable BR 1-2 and the heavy mortars at BR3+

Medium Mortars are already a RT weapon. Only Germany and Soviets have them

Medium Mortar sit at BR 5 currently, so I would like the US and Japan to receive their own medium mortars.

And as a bonus coming at the sacrifice of a lack of mobility, you can get a medium mortar at BR 1-2 by building it. Which also in turn encourages new players to use engineers more often.

I would like to see most of these in game, but I think heavy mortars should just be built by engineers instead. The heavy mortar require two people to carry, so it can be like an AT gun where you can carry it with two soldiers when it is built

Ages ago there was another thread where we thought indirect 75MM Howitzers could be a buildable for the mortar squad. (Or Big mortarts like 120mm buildables)

Usage same as mortar. lobbing shots

It would be a crime to not make Heavy Mortars the Mortar squad’s unique building

Infantry Support Guns could be buildable for another squad

Wouldnt really want more squads doing indirect fire. Mortar squad should be the only one IMO

as long as they have a limited angle to prevent them from being used as a direct fire art gun

no need to limit angle, Just have them aim the same way as mortars (distance) and that will resolve that. Lobbing shots with a minimum distance, and perhaps a larger maximum distance than mortars.

would be interesting using it to Lob HEAT shells at greyzone camping tanks

definity loved it, still AA would be nice to.

I say they can go a step up from this and add SPGs. Like the m7 priest.

What would be the point of adding another mortar man to the squad?

If you put an upgraded radio man 2 in the squad you can get effectively infinite ammo, and more mortars are not really useful.

and AT guns as well
a paratroop is a universal role, it could sniper, could radio, could LMGer, finest engineer, great AT gunner as.
except medic or raider trait as guerilla’s but that just make em giga CHAD Gawd tier unit in this game then :mammoth:

Most other squads have 3 of their specialist, it’s just fitting

I also think there should be a third Flamethrower and Radio

“Whataboutism” is a rubbish argument.

I mean honestly its just a good backup soldier, its so easy to lose an AI randomly from either a stray round or shell fragments, Ive lost track of the number of times Ive lost the one guy I needed right at that moment who just got wiped out by a HE round going off about 50m away.

Personally Id like a new role, being the assistant/ammo bearer, give it to AT, Mortar and MG squads, basically just a mobile ammo box, though a bit more limited ofc (Have it only suppply your own squad or maybe only certain weapon types?). However I doubt we will see a new role anytime soon so I aint gonna cross my fingers there.

Personally I’d do exactly the opposite. Give mortar squad some kind of a light mountain gun for direct HE shots. This way they would have both direct and indirect fire support options.
In exchange I’d limit HE shells on AT guns (by half most likely).
