I’ve only been playing about 2 weeks now, if that. I normally hate fps pvp style games because well, I’m not super great at them. However I’m really enjoying this game, there’s a lot of things I can provide to a team other than a death meter and bullet sponge for other players and I’ve had a great time.
That said, I’m noticing (especially on the Pacific campaign) that like most other shooters that employ beautiful foliage and grasses and things to make a tropical island look tropical and therefore dangerous due to stuff hiding in them, is rendered largely worthless by players setting graphics to minimum and keeping their rendering distance high. Players stick out like sore thumbs, plants and vegetation are gone.
It baffles me that games like this don’t draw some kind of graphical line in the sand to uphold the intended nature of their game. I spent and entire battle testing my theories slowly crawling to and laying down in vegetation/bushes so thick I couldn’t see out of them, but got continually mowed down by tanks/planes/turret emplacements/etc. Sure sometimes I got seen on my way to my destination and that’s just bummer luck, but the vast majority of times I was there alone for a bit, something comes over a ridge, and I’m immediately smoked.
This is all lone soldiering too. I hide my squad on the other side of the hill, behind some rocks or a nearby wall, etc. Point is, force players to render your game’s lovely details. You’re base game is free, it isn’t like you lose money or customers if you force people to play the game the way you intended.
Anywho, upsetting to find a pvp fps that I actually enjoy and am half decent at to play with my friends, to find a lot of games get ruined by some dude in a tank 250m away sniping me with a machine gun (that’s also somehow more accurate than my bolt action sniper rifle).
