I see. You can perhaps argue for the TE-4 at BR IV. It kind of reminds me of the DT-29 for the Soviets. But I am not sure about the Type 98 though. It feels a bit too similar to the Type 100 MG that we already have in-game. I would go with this beauty instead.
No stock. There are Japanese Lewis guns with proper stocks.
there are type 92s without shroud ,too
(Without shroud variant both with & without stock )
I see. Thanks for the heads up mate.
You may be interested, but the book 佐山二郎(2008)「小銃・拳銃・機関銃入門-日本の小火器徹底研究」光人社NF文庫 states, that all semi-automatic rifles of the 1930s competition had the option of attaching telescopic sights.
There is also a good Russian article about Japanese semi-automatic rifles, from a man who is probably the best in Russia to understand Japanese weapons. He says that the automatic version of the Type Hei was tested with Type 97 telescopic sight.
P.S.
Anyway I managed to find photos of the Type 97 modification with optics .
As far as I know, the stock was easily replaced, as you can tell from this image.
Here are more images of the Type 92 with the stock and the familiar barrel shroud.
But I can assume that the barrel shroud was too heavy for the Japanese soldiers, perhaps they found it ineffective, or there were no radiators at all, as the Type 92 was mostly used for aviation.
Actually the Type 92 with 97 charge disks can be a good weapon for the 5 BR pumping branch. I would like it to be a modification of the aviation version, it will allow to have a good sight (aviation sight will be much more convenient than the one on Lewis, just look at the review of the Soviet premium squad with a Lewis machine gun) and also have a reduced weight due to the lack of a barrel casing. And as we can see, such modifications were mass-produced. I would also remind you that Type 92 has a higher rate of fire than the usual Lewis, 600 rounds per minute, which will make it a good machine gun for 5 BR, as an analog of the Type 100 with better accuracy (the closest thing to the Type 92 is the Maxim-Tokarev in our game).
Keep in mind that developers need to add weapons to the battle pass throughout, which is why I think we don’t have events with unique weapons for Japan. If TE 4 needs to be added so that Japan basically has a 4 BR machine gun, then for example the Type 98 would be better added to the battle pass. Speaking of German machine guns in Japan’s service…
MG 17 was also presented to Japan, interestingly enough, they decided to adapt it for firing in armored vehicles! In fact, within the framework of our game, it can be considered a handgun, like the Type 97 or the DT 29. It could be one of the few belt-fed machine guns in Japan with a battle pass.
Extremely interesting link regarding the japanese semi-auto rifles. If what the guy says is true, then the Type Hei (late) of the battlepass in game is not correctly depicted, because it is chambered for the 6.5 mm cartridge ingame, and its stats are exactly the same as the tree variant of the Type Hei fully upgraded. But the guy says that the Type Hei (late) was chambered for 7.7 mm. That’s good to know.
But to add something about the rail for mounting a scope on the semi-auto rifles, I think we should at least have a WW2 picture of the said rifles with the scope attached, because if we follow this reasoning, pretty much all the japanese semi-auto could be equipped with a scope, but we actually don’t know IF, these rifles ever had a scope during WW2. And yes, I know that there is a picture of a Type Ko rifle with a scope, but it’s only one recent picture, and we don’t know if this was a legit WW2 assembly, or a post-war one. Just like the Carcano carbine with a scope ingame, this is the same deal: a few recent pictures on the internet with absolutely zero information, so I don’t like this gun either. We could say the same about the Type 100 MG, and in this case, I could not find a SINGLE picture of this weird conversion with the single pistol grip, so that’s why I would love to at least have the model changed to the Type 1 MG with the weird shoulder rest and the twin pistol grips: it wouldn’t change anything in the gameplay itself because the two triggers were linked, so pressing only one would suffice, and it would still have a “stock”, and make a “believable” last-ditch weapon.
So, in conclusion: I HATE MADE UP GUNS SO MUCH.
But this is only my opinion, you are free to have a different opinion than mine.
We have a scope mount and we know what scope it is designed for, can’t figure out what the problem is. Do you think the designers of these rifles made them as a joke? Also the use of these rifles in WWII was very limited, so it is very difficult to say how they were used (if they were changed at all). But in our game there are weapons that were not changed in WWII, which remained only as prototypes, such as automatic rifle Type Hey, automatic rifle T20, AVT 40 with 15-round magazine (in reality only 10-round magazines were used) and so on… So having sniper Type Hey or Type Koh does not seem strange at all against the background of what we already have in the game.
By the way this is a modern 1:2 scale replica.
I never said it was a joke, of course it was made for that purpose. But given that they were all small series of guns pressed into service near the end of the war to get more weapons quickly, I doubt that they were ever fitted with a scope. And you even say that the Type Ko rifle with the scope on the picture is a replica, so we basically have zero pictures of scopes mounted on these rifles, so that’s why I am not a big fan of putting “what if” guns in the tree, in battlepass, maybe, why not. But I think we should stick a maximum to guns produced in big series in the trees and maybe add a bit of prototypes to fill gaps, that’s why I think we should add the Type 96, 99, 97, and 91 MGs with scopes to the sniper class, and it wouldn’t be too unbalanced imo, because the germans and soviets already have scoped FG42, STG44, and the AVS iirc. We would just have to find a few prototypes of scoped weapons for the allies and that should be quite balanced imo. I’m sure we could find something somewhere.
A 7.7mm Type Hei Late would be an extremely welcome addition to the regular TT rifle line. I can only cross my fingers and hope that DF takes note of this and DOESNT make it an event weapon
This is very flawed reasoning to not add a scoped semi auto for Japan. The scope mount is clearly visible in the game model for the Ko, therefore it was obviously designed to mount a scope when desired.
Maybe my reasoning is flawed, I can understand why some people would like to have semi-auto snipers for Japan tree, sure. But don’t you think it would feel a bit weird to have sniper rifles in the tree that nobody ever found a single pic of, while the japanese actively used their Type 96 and 99 MGs with scopes, and these wouldn’t be in the tree ? Again, I understand the reasoning of players who want these rifles, but I would personally prefer to have scoped MGs for snipers that were mass produced, adopted and used in active combat.
I would personally prefer to see such rifles in the battlepass, because I feel that the Japan tree would lose some of its uniqueness if it had such rifles in the tree. But I guess that if my opinion is in the minority, I will comply to the majority’s opinion, that’s how things work after all, I have no problem with that fact.
Well in the future i will post one very big Japanese tech tree when i have more time specially with the vehicles there is a lot to be added also a bit more small arms wont hurt we need semi autos with optics and lmgs with optics
Its been a while that I’ve read the section on the semi autos (when I got the book I jumped on the SMGs immediately and only glossed over the SLRs, guess I forgot about that), either way good find.
Shame there are no pictures I’m aware of that show the mentioned scopes, which is weird because we do have pictures of the bipods that’re also mentioned in that section.
It would be really nice if he had any sources for that claim, I checked both its test report (just a quick view nothing too indepth because the handwriting would take longer to translate and I sadly don’t have the time for that rn) and the writing from Sayamas book “Masterpiece Weapons of the Japanese Army - The Ultimate Weaponry Thorough Study” 日本陸軍の傑作兵器駄作兵器―究極の武器徹底研究 again and there is no such mention.
I don’t like that his article has no sources in general, makes the claims somewhat sketchy.
Eh, my personal choice for that title would be https://lautlesen.livejournal.com/ even if he went private after some of his articles got copied, if you can get access to them they’re really interesting.
Where’s that image from? Also modified by who? That looks like an US optic to me.
Ok so everyone can have good shit except Japan. By this logic we should remove the RD 44, AS 44, Fedorov, sniper MKb. 42(H). Unless, of course, you can find pictures of these weapons being used. Can these weapons meet your standard? Personally I think the RD 44 (Redundant should be an event weapon) and Fedorov (Anachronistic) should be hidden like the Maus was from War Thunder.
Bruh, calm down, I never said I didn’t want Japan to have cool stuff, I’m a even a Japan main and I finished to research the entire tree recently, that’s my favourite nation right now. As for the RD-44, AS 44, and sniper Mkb 42 (h) iirc they were tested on the field, so I have no problem with it, and the Fedorov was used against the finns, so it was still in use during WW2. My problem with these japanese sniper rifles is the fact that we don’t even know if they were issued with a scope when the japanese pressed them into service, and that uncertainty is reinforced by the fact that they were pressed into service near the end of the war, when resources were very scarce. But as I said, if that’s what the players want, I’ll just accept it, after all we’re far from the level of cod vanguard where they introduced a freaking FN F2000. I’m just nitpicking.
But also, aren’t scoped LMGs cool stuff to you ? I mean, it’s pretty unique to the japanese, no other nation really did it as much as the japanese when you compare to the other belligerents’regular weapons.
Yes it is extremely exciting to me. I wish we would have them for the Type 96, 99 and 92. It is one of the biggest missed opportunities to make the Japan TT truly unique.
