I would additionally suggest automatic customization of weapon pouches. Rifles are rifle pouches. Submachine guns have their own pouches. Etc. Or make it possible to customize all the equipment for the soldier himself, not counting the basic unloading.

Yeah, it pretty messy when it comes about ammo pouches, some Premium SMG squad equipped with assault rifle ammo pouch as standard or MG squad with a rifle ammo pouch.

i suppose DF can create a generic small/large ammo pouch that will automatically morph corresponding into whatever the soldier is wielding
