FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WON’T READ THE SECOND HALF, I’M PUTTING IT IN BIG TEXT RIGHT HERE. I DON’T WANNA CHANGE YOUR LINEUPS OR MAKE IT AN ASSAULTER-ONLY WEAPON
Performance-wise, the M2 carbine is much closer to an assault rifle than it is to the other semi-auto rifles. Not only is the .30 carbine cartridge significantly weaker than every semi-auto rifle cartridge, it’s also weaker than every other assault rifle cartridge. The M1944 Hyde is gonna be an assault rifle, and it fires the same cartridge. So for the purpose of kill counting for daily challenges, events, and things of that sort, it would make more sense if it was an assault rifle.
HOWEVER, I do not think it should be changed to be an assaulter exclusive like the other assault rifles are. Doctrinally it makes more sense for it to still be usable by riflemen, engineers, AT gunners, etc, but purely from a weapon classification standpoint it would make more sense if kills with it counted as assault rifle kills.
The forum is really in a pathetic state when it is simply filled with people suggesting to reclassify weapons in ways that don’t add value to the game, anger people, and mess up people’s squads.
Enlisted weapon classifications are really weird, but they do make sense from game play point of view.
The weapon categories are:
Pistols
Submachine guns
Assault rifles
Machine guns
Bolt-action rifles
Semi-auto rifles
Special weapons (flamethrowers, mortars ect)
These classes are based on event and BP tasks like kill 30 enemies using something.
If you consider how many different categories Darkflow would need to add for each weapon to be in its own category than it would be way too complicated.
Like “kill 30 enemies using battle rifles” I’m sure noone wants that.
Forgot about that. But that’s also another reason to make the M2 carbine an assault rifle, because they literally fire the same cartridge and are both full auto.
Yeah, and the M2 fits way better as an AR than it does as a semi-auto. It is a select-fire rifle that fires an intermediate/light rifle cartridge. It performs much more like an assault rifle than it does like a full-power automatic rifle.
This literally wouldn’t change any lineups, it’s about grouping weapons in a way that makes sense. The M2 carbine makes much more sense as an assault rifle for the sake of event tasks and daily challenges, it’s much closer to an AR than it is to a full-power automatic rifle. This would be beneficial.
But it being usable by squads like AT gunners and flamethrower operators is a matter of historical accuracy. Historically, the M1 carbine was designed specifically for support troops and other units that needed something more powerful than a pistol or SMG, but could not carry a full-sized rifle like the M1 Garand. The original M1 carbine was actually intended to be full-auto, but the feature was dropped for ease of production until the M2 carbine. The majority of M2 carbines were converted M1s, with a relatively small amount of weapons actually produced as M2 carbines. So the kind of units who would’ve received the M2 first is the same demographic who got the M1. Although the M2 carbine did later replace most SMGs, that wasn’t until post-war. It could be made an assaulter weapon, but really it should still be usable by these other units.
Moving them to assaulters would be a nice change. More reasons to use them because I don’t like the Thompsons at all, tbh. Never would use them again, even with a gun to my face.
if we strictly talk about balance, Assault rifles are more or less better in total performance than select fire rifles, M2 Carbine however is no STG mostly because of its sights.
Me personally, I would have no problem if the M2 were made so it can be used as an assault rifle or an smg. Really, be honest, not many people are going to stock their troops up with M2 Carbines when they can field the T20, and the M2 would be a nice option for those who don’t like the Thompson. I like both and would use both with my assaulters. I do use the M2’s, but mainly as my Radioman’s back up weapon just so I can field it.
