I think well-known SS are probably off limits, even if he did pioneer the development of special forces commandoes. After the war he would go on to be a spy/asset for several organizations, including Mossad, funnily enough.

huh i mean didnt we get that jap guy that survive in malaysia or something for like 20 year after the war end? i mean is it really that bad to add legend like otto personally i think it fine but idk if there is a limit

He was a fanatical soldier that didn’t believe the war had ended, not a Unit 731 scientist. Though I am bitter that both Allied Normandy paratroopers have hero soldiers in them, and Axis didn’t get Oberleutnant Erich Lepkowski.

was he also an elite soldier? i really never heard much of germany elite only a couple like otto and gunter it really hard for me to find german elite than allie tbh

Here’s the highlight of his actions in France https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1gVGH-Mo7s&ab_channel=MarkFeltonProductions

dam there really isnt a lot of info on german elite

I disagree. there is documentation on Panzerknackers who would be perfect for AT gold order troops. There is 40+ aces they could choose from for gold order pilots, yet almost none have been chosen for whatever reason. They have numerous tank aces of varying fame. There are many stories of infantry heroism which were propagandized and made widespread by the state. The problem is pretty much all of those decorated soldiers were party members or inducted as party members as part of their decoration.

Always like these posts! Thank you as always! Only 4 this time though, sadly :((

I know these are not in the BP but perhaps they should be included:

Erich Hartmann 352 kills
I know he will never be included but …

From 1943 to 1945, Matthäus Hetzenauer terrorized Soviet troops on the Eastern Front with his keen eye. He personally shot and killed 345 men, though Hetzenauer’s biographer believes the kill count could even have been twice that.

again he will never be included but…

Hans-Ulrich Rudel
Rudel was credited with the destruction of 519 tanks, one battleship, one cruiser, 70 landing craft and 150 artillery emplacements. He claimed nine aerial victories and the destruction of more than 800 vehicles. He flew 2,530 ground-attack missions exclusively on the Eastern Front, usually flying the Junkers Ju 87 “Stuka” dive bomber…

And then was smuggled to South America, where he founded a support group for other similarly exiled veterans. Eventually he dropped his alias altogether and ran in the West German federal election of 1953 for the far-right German Reich Party. He’s one of my favorites as well.

I’d nominate Günther Viezenz, a Panzerknacker (armor breaker) Ace, who is credited with the destruction of 21 enemy tanks with hand-held explosives.
Viezenz

Id not heard of Günther Viezenz before … Sounds a good nomination to me :+1:

Perhaps a little bit research might help your understanding of history and geography?
The Marat was moored and hit at Kronstadt Harbor, the largest naval base in the WW2 Soviet Union.

Ah, so it’s not a even Soviet battleship.
This is a ship that was already 30 years old at that time, and it was not destroyed, it was only disabled for a while. So I don’t see anything significant and interesting here. The Soviet Union in general did not have its own battleships, only the remaining junk from the Russian Empire.

You just need to write correctly, not catchy.

lol
first it was there were no ships on the eastern front then oh um it wasnt a battlship lol … nothing to see here lol

Marat was reconstructed from 1928 to 1931 and represented the Soviet Union at the Coronation Naval Review at Spithead in 1937. Two years later, she bombarded a Finnish coastal artillery position during the Winter War once before the Gulf of Finland iced up. Shortly afterwards, her anti-aircraft armament was upgraded. When the Germans invaded on 22 June 1941 she was in Kronstadt and provided gunfire support to Soviet troops in September as the Germans approached Leningrad. Later that month she had her bow blown off and sank in shallow water after two hits by 1,000-kilogram (2,200 lb) bombs (dropped by two Ju 87 Stukas, one of which was piloted by Hans Ulrich Rudel) that detonated her forward magazine. The remaining rear section was refloated several months later and became a stationary artillery battery
