After the addition of the APC driver (or for most of us milk truck driver) the battle are shifted to a more infantry support vehicle orientated gameplay…

But I guess we can do better…

And for better I mean more vehicle/infantry squad like the APC squad , So I’m going to posting a little variation of the old raider squad to put alongside the truck squad for a better motorised infantry gameplay

Motorized recon squad (the old rider squad reworked with addition)

During the mid of the ww2 was Normal using light armoured vehicle to do the job of scouting the enemy forces and come back alive for report it

All sides used army car/scouts car

Equipped with machingun principally for self defense, but if the situation required it those vehicle was used alongside infantry as support

In game their advantage would be their low profile and movability compared to a tank, able to take road tank in game currently can’t, for suppress the enemy infantry in attack or defending a position, also because they aren’t able to use heavy HE to wipe out enemy with a click, they need stay on the frontline and so promoting a whole more aggressive approach for the whole team for defend those mobile MG without overheating

anyway it obvious it gonna be scout car cause why would you make a new class for that when you could reuse old one

Indeed also the other solutions is give them armoured car, but those are already in the tank squad

Not a bad suggestion, but it could be expanded a little, by adding more vehicles as well as adding support infantry.

The problem

as I said up other vehicles suitable for the job are inside tanker squad and APC squad as both premium TT and event, this make just armed scout car still suitable for be added in the reworked raider squad

You are posting armored car, and armored car are generally already used on other squad, also rider squad shouldn’t be another “tank squad”, because after some thinking I find those vehicles you listed (who i already proposed in the past) hard to counter if spammed in low BR because small arms fire can’t damage them, open top like the sdfk can still work but a closed top BA64 are a big no, completely overkill in low BR if spammed

Its open and Heroes and Generals had the gunner head a little bit exposed which you could snipe.

I did point that out in my original topic, which is why I only included 20mm auto cannons at best so Puma or m8 greyhound will stay “tanks” but AB41 could be moved to riders.
A 20mm auto cannon on BR2-BR3 wouldn’t be OP at all.
These armoured cars would just get a crew of 2/3 and 3/2 men riding on top of it.
They would be usual for flanking or frontally assaulting objectives that are not covered by AT guns/tanks.

honestly i really like how it is in steel division 2, basically every squad has a vehicle that can be assigned to it to deliver it to the battle
Just giving every single infantry squad an empty slot for a non spawn point truck or a jeep of sorts and an option to spawn with it like in heroes and generals would be kinda cool

Half the time I am torn between, do I use my MG halftrack as a rally, Or an assault platform

Precisely this.

I’ve been asking for this for a while and it seems we both thought of APC being unique in being a mobile spawn point. Whereas other squads would just get a regular truck or halftrack (which can be chosen to be deployed or not) for transportation.

Ive also previously suggested squad specific vehicles such as:

Artillery tractor for Engineers. This would be able to tow AT and AA guns and acts as a resupply point for engineer build points. Naturally the amount of times you could replenish build points would be limited.

Ambulance for medics. As well as transport, acts as an auto heal point for soldiers within a certain radius.

Ive also previously suggested a recon squad precisely like this post. @gastanofrizzi.
M3 Scout car great idea.
Ive thought of the Daimler Dingo for UK/Commonwealth.
A recon squad to me would, like the APC squad, have specific roles assigned.

So I was thinking of things like a sniper or two, machine gunner, driver obviously (with SMG), not sure about engineer. The idea of a recon squad as youve mentioned would be scouting ahead and longer range engagements.

This actually leads me to a new suggestion of maybe a squad’s vehicle acts as a ammo box (with finite refills) but only for the weapons of that squad.

Id also suggest Hobart’s Funnies and bulldozers to clear/get over obstacles. There could be premium tanks with bulldozer blades otherwise bulldozers would get rid of all the junk around the map, make paths through trees, tow away tank hulks and create natural barriers for infantry/tanks (i.e hull down position.) This function has already been worked out quite well in War Thunder.

As for concerns about tanks VS armoured cars VS IFVs. My solution would be keep tank slot for tanks. In low BR this would be things like M3 Stuart, Panzer II, T26 and so forth.

Then we have the existing APC slot which is trucks and then maybe halftracks for higher tier which are unique in being mobile rallypoints.

Then each squad has a vehicle assigned to them as Ive outlined above.

Our recon squad Id just add as a new squad type with a reconnaissance vehicle. I dont see the problem with M3 Scout Car, Daimler Dingo, Sdkfz221 and Kurogane (armed). I would replace with Humber with the Dingo as mentioned. Not sure about the AS42. The Sdkfz221 only has a single AT rifle which is hardly OP (Ive used it in War Thunder).

If youre really worried one could even make these are BR II squad onwards so theyd be even weaker when facing enemies (again emphasising the role as longer range engagement and locating enemies rather than going Rambo on them).

As for armoured cars and SPAAs. I believe SPAA should be its own slot. That way we can have more anti aircraft weapons without forcing people to forfeit a tank.
I suppose armoured cars would just be options for lower BRs.

The final category is riders. For that instance Id say make motorcycles BR 1, and jeeps/similar vehicles BR II. Alternatively we could get rid of motorcycles which are really quite useless in game (only 2 soldiers, easily fall over), replace them with jeeps/similar vehicles and then for maybe BR II or III onwards we basically have the recon squad weve been discussing like start with Willys Jeep and then get M3 Scout car?
