Lafette isn’t an emplacement. It’s sth between weapon and emplacement.
And yes, I can have different types of emplacements serving simmilar role. It’s just another item that have different stats. For example to destroy APC I would rather build PAK 36 then 8,8 FLAK cannon.
EXACTLY!
as far as game mechanics are concerned, it’s an emplacement.
If the emplacement system gets a total revamp to allow customizing your emplacement layout, it can be looked at, but not now.
I have no idea why you want to make it emplacement but if you fancy.
Than is mortar also emplacement?
it should be
It’s quite old way of dealing with weapons like this. But if you like it to be this way than ok.
It’s just an inconsistent game mechanic.
Every deployable object should be handled the same one way or the other.
I don’t agree. There is big difference between placing down a mortar and building sandbag wall.
Small “platoon” mortars such as the 2 in the game do not require any sort of prepared emplacement - just a bit of firm ground.
Sandbags will never make sense here unless they take the post-scriptum approach, in which case they still won’t make much sense.
tbh I’m mostly for the PS approach to emplacements.
Not really - for starters it has to be carried by a 2nd person, then it has to be set up, then the gun has to be placed into it.
If you mean different stages of building than yes. Logistics wouldn’t work for current enlisted maps.
But I don’t see any other big differences. So I don’t see how it changes anything.
Yeah I meant the different stages of building for the most part rather than pulling 50 sandbags out of your ass all at once.
Anything towed or that must be carried in a truck shouldn’t be carried around by an engineer either really. But that talk is heading too far by the way of asking for sweeping changes of game mechanics.
I guess so. Although I would like to see build stages / upgrades for construction.
Well, simplifications and other stuff. What else can I say.
But mortars and tripods can be carried (back to the original topic).
Not in terms of what to do to set it up, but in what it does once it is
Edit: And I actually though Shrek replied here with

You know that’s what he is suggesting, right?
Misunderstanding of misunderstanding is… understanding?
Summary
LMG:
- able to shoot on foot
- able to bipod for better control (needs suitable place)
- high mobility and more resistant to flanking
My additional idea: option to change ammo belts for bigger when bipoded. Requires special item.
HMG (MG nest):
- high firepower and control
- sandbags from front - option to upgrade by hammering to add more sandbags or other cover
- takes long time to build
- quite large footprint because of additional protection
- requires engineer
- vulnerable to flanking and indirect fire because of lack of mobility (jet it has good protection)
- biggest ammo belt possible, large ammo suply
- player may develop an emotional bond with his work (become a camper)
MMG (lafette, only GE):
- higher control than LMG but worse than HMG
- option to set almost instantly in 3 different configurations (low, high, AA mount)
- small footprint size makes it easier to place than HMG
- must be caried by a soldier
- larger ammo belt (may need special item, similarly to LMG)
- higher mobility than HMG allows more aggressive playstyle
- ammo is drained from MG gunner’s inventory
MMGs and HMGs (also some LMGs) may require assistant gunner but it’s different discussion.
I tried to answer as much of your concerns as possible. If you have any questions, suggestions or observations please write them. Otherweise thread will be considered closed.
Ps.
I know it’s resurrection of old post but I want to close it properly without sth being unclear.
