Japanese Automatic Sniper Rifles 🇯🇵

Introducnion

At the moment, Japan only has bolt-action sniper rifles. However, on the Pacific Ocean maps with their size, sniper weapons could be very much in demand, even if we are not talking about an entire sniper squad, but about snipers in other squads.

The Type 97 optical sight reticle is incorrect in the game.

Specifications of the Type 97 sight

  • Weight - 650 g (in game 700 g)

  • Magnification - 2.5x

  • Field of view angle - 10°

“The Type 97 sniper scope is designed to be mounted on sniper rifles, but in the future, if automatic rifles are developed, this scope can also be mounted on them.”

I would like to point out that the Type 97 optical sight was tested in parallel with the development of the Type Ko, Type Otsu and Type Hei rifles. Also, the design of the Type 97 sight mounts and the rifles presented below are the same.

Automatic Rifles

Type Hei

The early Type Hey rifle has a scope mount on the left side of the receiver.

Early Type Hei with closed scope mount, in the game the early Type Hei also has a closed mount.

The late Type Hei has a slot on both sides, but it is physically impossible to install a Type 97 sight on the right side, perhaps it would have been easier to make a symmetrical receiver.

Moreover, in Jiro Sayama’s book “小銃拳銃機関銃入門”, Sayama also writes that automatic rifles (late Type Hei short and long, as well as Type Ko short and long) have a mount for optical sights and the ability to attach a bipod.

The Type Hei also has a slot for mounting an optical sight, almost identical to that of the Type 97 rifle.

The left side of the Type Hei automatic, the mount for the optical sight has become more like that of the Type 97.

Type Otsu

Some long Type Otsu had a scope mount on top of the receiver (maybe some short Type Otsu also had fastenings, but I have not come across such examples).

Type Ko

There were many variants of the Type Ko produced and some of them had a scope mount on the left side of the receiver. As mentioned above, Jiro Sayama writes in his book that Type Ko rifles were equipped with optical sights.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find any document on JACAR about the Type 99 sight, so I took information from the Internet, on average they all quote Japanese Wikipedia (in fact, Japanese Wikipedia articles are of good quality).

Kokura Arsenal Rifle

Kokura Arsenal automatic rifle, probably from the early 1940s, has a mount for a telescopic sight on the left side of the receiver.

An excerpt presumably from the book “Military Rifles of Japan” which talks about the possibility of mounting a 4x optical sight.

Type 4

Document A03032103400 on JACAR states that the Type 4 rifle is suitable for sniper shooting. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a rifle with a mount for a scope, but I will note that the Type 4 has a blank smooth surface on the left side of the receiver that would be well suited for a mount.

I would appreciate any additional information on the Type 4 sniper!

A Based post, as always. I hope that the developers will listen to you and add everything you listed in your post to the Japanese. That would be great.
On the other hand, is it necessary to do this? Is it necessary to add sniper rifles to the top BR for the Japanese? Snipers are useless to the team, and the lack of sniper rifles for the Japanese at high BRs reduces the number of snipers, and therefore increases their usefulness to the team.

Because I have a squad of 9 fighters.

Of course, I choose an engineer, an armor-piercing specialist and… Why do I need a radio operator? Why do I need a second engineer? A sniper is pointless now.

By the way, only one Japanese unit has a normal choice of fighters.

And a sniper could also be interesting to play in a squad of stormtroopers.

Sounds reasonable. I agree.

Yep, Japanese really need to have something tbh, they are the most neglected

There are so many nice suggestion with interresting japanese weaponry to be added and yet the best the devs are offering is random captured weapon /copy paste german stuff that never made it to japan.

It is so disapointing…

Well SIG KE7 50 rounds and Japanese Muzzle brake for BR IV and Ko Sniper Rifle for BR III are really very easy to implement and will be nice additions also that Kikka must be moved to Ground Attacker this will make Japan really good faction cuz right now BR V Japan is just dead after the Jet Update…

Beautiful suggestion post as always. I really hope that Japan will get some more love to their selection of sniper rifles, hell even just for now I’d be happy with scopes being accurate.

Nevertheless here’s hoping Japan will get the automatic snipers they deserve! :muscle::jp:

Uhm because Radio Operators are incredibly powerful? Artillery strikes can clear objectives, and smoke artillery is insanely powerful on the Pacific maps to allow your team to push?

Japan + sniper = bad

I have a radio operator in another squad, I don’t need a radio operator in every squad, it doesn’t make any sense. Moreover, radio operators in other squads can’t call smoke! So this is a very strange remark.

With any weapon you can sit in the rear and not go to the points. As practice shows, with the Type 97 machine gun it is more than possible to storm the points.

Yes, they can call smoke. Its an upgrade you can get now.

Although there are no documents or anything to back it up, a user created a fantasy concept of what it could have been like, but I doubt it’s real

I literally pointed out in the topic a document that says that Type 4 is suitable for sniper shooting .

But because the Type 4 is 7.7mm caliber, it would use the Type 99 scope.

I mean find the original one hun
