Japan lacks a bolt action rifle capable of remaining zoomed between shots, add the Arisaka Type 44 Carbine

Every faction except Japan possesses a bolt/lever action rifle capable of remaining aimed between shots such as the Lee Enfield Mk.4, Winchester M1895, and the Mannlicher M1895.

I propose Japan gets a new rifle added to their tech tree, namely the Arisaka Type 44 to fulfil this niche for several reasons.

1: Almost 100,000 units of this rifle was produced and served from 1911 until 1945, making it a reasonable option to include free in the tech tree.
2: The weapon is already modeled in Enlisted, it is available as a decorator for Japanese tanks. The model might need to be touched up on to be higher quality, but the basis is ALREADY in the game.

3: Japan only has 1 other carbine available and it’s generally regarded as complete garbage. There should be more variety.

Please note that the Type 44 is not the same as the regular Type 38 carbine, with one significant difference being the sights and the integrated folding bayonet.

Reportedly there was experiments with the Type 44 carbine to rechamber it in 7.7mm Arisaka, which could prove interesting to explore.

What’s the evidence that the Type 44 could comfortably be cycled whilst still aiming down the sights?

I don’t mind new weapons for Japan, but this mechanic shouldn’t be arbitrarily applied to just any gun, it’s supposed to reflect the real world characteristics of those weapons that have it.

idunno, do we need evidence? this game isn’t very realistic

Short answer: Yes, we do.

Yes, Enlisted leans into arcade-style gameplay in some areas, but it’s also clear the devs are putting in effort to depict weapons as realistically as possible where it makes sense. Rates of fire, for example, are generally standardized based on historical data (see the recent RoF tweaks to the AVS-36 and FG 42 I). You also don’t see weapons given firing modes they didn’t have in real life, aside from the outlier Fedorov Rifle 25, which has already been confirmed that it will be adjusted. Heck, the devs are clearly trialing a new brace mechanic on the German S-18 AT rifle, they obviously do care about realism.

The new “aiming-while-cycling” mechanic wasn’t just randomly handed out, it was added to specific rifles that could actually do this in real life. It’s not an arbitrary feature being thrown around.

Just because we have things like a standing MG 42 being used like an assault rifle doesn’t mean all realism goes out the window.

Well, if you have a better idea for Japan I’m all ears

I’m currently already working on a long series of weapons and vehicles suggestions for the British Commonwealth. I’m sure other, bright minds can carry the Japanese torch.

I’d recomend looking into the Thai use of Mannlichers, I think they used one of the older models before the M1895 (kind of how countries like Sweden used older iterations of the Mauser rifle family,) that were still stright-pull (and thus possibly would be capable of aiming-while-cycling). A great excuse to add a subfaction of their own to Japan too if done.

Japan lacks many things lol

The chinese used a lot of 1888/90 and 1890 Mannlicher rifles, as did the Siamese. The Siamese were also allied with Japan, so it’d make sense to add either captured chang Mannlichers or Siamese squads with 1890s.
