I'll hit the brakes he'll fly right by

He'll fly right by
Since I fly dive bombers the vast majority of the time, i am not usually on the hunt for a dogfight kill. However, nothing is more satisfying then going to reload, switching to your rear gunner and seeing some fighter plane going balls to the wall to catch you only to have you lure him in, cut power, apply airbrakes and drop the flaps and see the SOB fly right by, and on occasion right into your sights. I don’t get a lot of kills this way, but had a couple the other day. In my mind I see the enemy pilot going from “Oh yeah” to “Oh shit” in a few seconds.

Yeah the exact manoeuvre is called “overshoot” and used in war thunder as well.

Lately my rear gunners have been turned 180 degrees looking forward when I switch to them, which makes it more likely that I will be shot down without ever returning a shot. But it should be virtually impossible for the rear gunner, who is NOT in a turret to be able to turn 180 degrees, and have the gun turned that way as well.

On the overshoot, if I can get them to overshoot, I figure I have at least a 50/50 chance of shooting him down, if I can switch to my pilot quickly and find him quickly as I can turn the plane and get some shots off at him before he gets to far away. I do have several shoot downs with my Stuka on P38’s as they don’t see me and I follow them to their reload spot and get them as they are turning around, usually the same spot they always get me, after I reload and am turning around.

Mav! It is you!!!
