Plane basically flies forward, gains no height then slowly dives into the sea, had throttle to full just can’t gain height, retracted landing gear. This is with the SBD on Allies in Pacific campaign, tried a few times, pretty fed up with it to be honest.
Make sure you reach 130 TAS on carrier runway, slightly push nose of plane down, ensure, take off flaps deployed and when lifting off, don’t pull up to hard as you stall, your plane will gain speed, leave flaps on combat and get a little lift, aim to get within 350m altitude at least before bombing, it is a slow climb.
Also WEP on SBD 110 Throttle will help you lift too.
It took me several tries before i learned how, widowmakers instructions are sound, if you follow them you will get flight, stick with it, you will figure it out, if you want additional help, messege me and ill help more if you like
My Carrier Take off tips (previous post)
- Recite yur favourite prayer
- Place foot flat on the accelerator
- Grip joystick between yur balls
- stretch both arms out wide (for extra flaps)
- Get yur goggles ready
And, don’t fly if yur can’t swim
Put max throttle
Put the nose down, so you see where youre going and wont take off
Once you reach the end, just fly off and slowly pull up
I thought the hard part is to land for repairs.
Thank you for this advice it helped a lot. I managed a successful take off, I also managed to land (all be it badly). I crashed on take off again, lol however I’m in a much better place than I was thank you very much. I also discovered my airbrake was quick bound to both airbrake and ‘look around’ which is why my planes on other campaigns have on occasion lost height for no reason, so not only did I learn something, I discovered something else that had been bothering me, which is now solved. Big kudos to you sir.
Well, that must have been a fluke as I haven’t been able to repeat it, I’ve had my right wing hit the con tower, the landing gear fall off the left side of the carrier and it pile into the sea. it’s like the yaw is loose. To be honest I’m finding this unplayable. I don’t think it’s just me.
You have to use a little rudder when taking off, not too much! Practice…
I am getting better lol
Face up to it, some of us are born not to fly. You might go better as a Tank pilot, at least you will be closer to ground
