Russians had huge operations and a massive victory in Manchuria during WWII.

Here are the basics for anyone who is curious, therefore I am actually quite stunned that NO ONE in this world has made an FPS game out of any of these frontlines?

I mean, Russia and Japan are still TODAY officially “At War” with a ceasefire agreement over the Kuril islands?

This is from the 1939:

Battles of Khalkhin Gol - Wikipedia

And from the 1945:

Soviet invasion of Manchuria - Wikipedia

Such a HUGE potential and we already have very dedicated Soviet player base in the form of Russian online player community? We know that the Axis side has already Germans X4 and no one seems to be interested playing with the Americans on Normandy.

Everyone has made U.S side of the Normandy story game already… That is why, too much is too much. Over-usage by all the video games and I am afraid that it is the same with the Japan VS. U.S Story too but only time will tell.

The REAL reason why Japan decided to call it “Quits” during the WWII was not the atomic bombs, it was USSR starting its massive invasion of Manchuko.

Japan main island was ready to fight until the last man, elderly, child and whatever… Just google Japan “Last Ditch” weapons and it is amazing, literally every pot and pan was intended to be made into weapons against U.S occupation.

However, the Soviets did them in finally.

Maybe because its not really fitted with videogame?

Vast regions with endless plains, small villages and forests, oil drilling platforms that were fought over, major multinational cities filled with extensive spy networks (Harbin for example) and Pacific/ Far-East Asian and Russian cultural mix with vast resources and production basis?

I mean, Manchuria was the wealthiest region in China with the most amount of advanced industry at the time?

There is a reason why Japan worked so hard to capture it and why there was a huge competition over the area between China, Russia and Japan for many decades. Bloody competition might I add.

There was also Unit-731 research facilities and human experimentation programs that Japan ran.

Here is a movie about it from Youtube, old one but extremely brutal and this actually happened “The Men Behind The Sun” with english subtitles:

The Men Behind the Sun (Uncut) English - YouTube

Eventually the leader of that Unit that did these horrible atrocities towards Koreans, Chinese and Russians got himself an asylum from the U.S in exchange for the medical information that his unit gained.

So, you have real-life horror, endless beauty, more culture and history than anyone can ever digest. Endless warfare and incredible stories from all of the sides and North Korea next door just as a bonus.

  • How on earth can you NOT make a video game or two out of that region?

One FPS game would be a start.

Manchuria wouldn’t really work for this game, it would be incredibly imbalanced. The Soviet armour would completely obliterate the Japanese armour even if you stretch the dev’s rule of “if it happened, we can add it” to it’s very limit.

Also, we already have 3 campaigns with Soviets in them, and the playerbase is already beginning to spread thin. Stalingrad Allies has been a meme since it dropped, because the Soviet mains are all playing Berlin and Moscow. Meanwhile, the US is only in this game in one campaign where they are center stage, and another where they supplement the British where they lack gear, such as with semi-autos. The reason Normandy is the most populated campaign is because that is the only place where you get to play primarily as the Americans, while the playerbase for the Germans and Russians are spread across manny different campaigns. Sure, Tunisia took some of the playerbase away, but it was mostly a British focused campaign, and the people who want to play the Americans will all gravitate to Normandy, as iconic weapons like the Garand are more accessible there.

Furthermore, there is no consensus as to why the Japanese military decided to call it quits to this day, but we do know for a fact how the Japanese population was convinced to stand down, and it was the atomic bombs. In the speach where he calls for the country to stand down, Emperor Hirohito goes out of his way to discuss “a new and most cruel bomb” as the reason Japan can no longer continue to fight. In the same speech, the Soviet Union is mentioned only once, and that is in a list of all of the countries Japan is communicating with to finally end the war. So what you said is misleading at best, if not outright incorrect. The atomic bombs convinced the Japanese population to stand down, not the Invasion of Manchuria.

Finally, a Manchuria campaign would be like adding an Iran campaign, it wouldn’t appeal to enough people to justify adding it. If you are going to have a WW2 game, the three most iconic places that you are going to want to add to appeal to the most people are going to be Stalingrad, North Africa and the Island hopping campaign. We have the first two already and to appeal to the most people, something like Okinawa is probably the best way to go.

Pacific is a must and Germans already have 4 different campaigns with plenty of paratrooper weapons included in them. That player basis is as exhausted as the real German military machine was towards the end of the WWII.

British also have at least 1 campaign?

  • I am willing to concede on anything as long as the next campaign has JAPAN on it as a playable nation.

I am one of that generation that NEVER really had the change to experience gaming from the Japanese soldiers perspective and I would definitely go totally insane with that campaign.

I am glad that these games did not come out when I was a kid, I would have never graduated even a basic school… On the other hand, education has become quite worthless anyway?

Yeah, we all agree on that, the German playerbase is stretched to the point of breaking, and we need a Pacific campaign or two for sure.

This brings me an idea.

The pacific campaign could be in two different parts as one campaign?

Basically players could choose either Japan or Soviet/ U.S troops.

From three different nations and development lines.

  • This way the pressure on the allied front (Much more players there) would be divided into 2 and the set of maps could give you option of fighting either in Manchuria section with the Soviet troops and gear or on the so called “Southern Front” with U.S troops?

For the Japanese it could be the same in both cases. If you pick Japan, you might end up in Manchuria or on the Pacific islands, the gear did not really evolve that much in the Japanese military during the war and pretty much stayed the same?

The Japanese called the Pacific battles with the name “Southern front”.

Allied side would have to choose, weather to play with the Soviet troops/ U.S troops and that would determine if they would play in Manchuria/ Pacific Islands?

Besides, historically many of the Japanese units first fought in Manchuria and were later transferred to “Southern Front” anyway, it would not even break the history while giving a one campaign for the Axis side that would have kind of …

  • “2 campaigns in 1” feeling to it?

Crazy idea, however… Could it work?

  • That campaign would be very heavy with the maps and map making, it would require at least twice as many maps as any other campaign in the game itself, however having majority of the U.S/ British / Soviet gear and weapons ready already, it should not be a problem.

Then the whole campaign could be named “Pacific” and the game would be done with it at once?

I am tossing this idea here as a brain picker, if anyone has anything to add or something please, I encourage you to do so.

This is what I had in my mind, hopefully this helps to illustrate my way of thinking?

No, that wouldn’t work because You still can’t balance Manchuria. However, something like that should be considered for Germany.

I Think I might have accidentally solved Poland/ France idea with that suggestion?

It would/ could be called “Blitzkrieg” and it would do the same with the Germans, im the future however the Polish and French would have their own sections and set of maps?

uh there’s the men of war game with russian and japanese campaign taking place in that battle
