History Facts During Battle

You do realise that F4F is a US navy designation don’t you - not a Grumman created name?

Ditto with TBF.

See 1922 United States Navy aircraft designation system - Wikipedia

It doesn’t matter, Grumman still have it as trademark.
This is from Grumman website.
“For example, Northrop Grumman owns the trademarks to the following vehicles: A-10 Thunderbolt, B-2 Spirit, F4U Corsair and F-14 Tomcat.”

So don’t call it “F4F Wildcat” - call it “F4F”, or call it the Martlet - Royal Navy name.

And don’t call it “TBF Avenger” - call it “TBF” or “TBM” - TBF’s made by General Motors.

Easy!

Or, bear with me now, could just not.
It seems like a problem they could fix but won’t.
