Half-Track? Half-Truck?

I am not a native English speaker.
After posting the word “Half-Track” a few times on this forum, it occurred to me.
“Wait, Half-Track is a Truck with half tires and half caterpillar.”
So, I thought I spelled “Truck” wrong and came back to the forum to correct my past post to “Truck”. But to my surprise looking around the forum, everyone call it as Half-Track. This confused me.
Which spelling is correct, Half-Track or Half-Truck? :exploding_head:

Is that Half-Truck because the front half is the truck?
Perhaps it is Half-Track because the second half portion is a tractor?
ahhh I feel like the more I think about it, the lower my IQ goes. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Tracks are (also) those:

So it’s half wheels - half tracks.

Oh, ok.
I have never heard of crawler bands being called “Tracks” before.
We tend to call them “Caterpillar”.
Thanks Adam.

Thank you Voyo.
Now my IQ has recovered a bit.

Like both would make sense given knowledge of the context
It is both half tracks
And half truck
:joy:

Better than going around calling it a halftrunk
