OK flyboys, I am sure you have also seen this before, just like I have.
An enemy plane is flying away from you in the far distance, towards or passed its own resupply point.
You decide to go after it, but it suddenly explodes by itself.
Seen it many times, no big deal, but what I have just seen was really more weird.
In Tunisia, I am flying my Beaufighter towards my resupply point, I am close to it.
Suddenly I see a plane above, going in the same direction as me, dont know if it’s friendly or not.
So I quickly move behind it.
Since its heading for my resupply point, I am guessing its a friendly plane.
But it doesnt look like one.
It has NO red or blue marker, so I dont know if it’s friendly or not.
Also no hit marker telling me where to aim.
Looks like an enemy plane.
It’s a fighter for sure, maybe ME109.
Since there is no red marker, I guess the pilots are both dead or bailed out, and the plane is just flying until it crashes.
I decide its an enemy plane and I open fire to finish it off.
No hits.
I move closer and fire more, should be all hits but nothing happens.
Meanwhile, we are far past my resupply point, still flying further away from the battle.
The enemy ghost plane keeps flying towards nowhere.
I keep firing but no hits.
No damage, no smoke or fire, nothing.
So I decide to leave this ghost plane alone, cant kill a ghost thats already dead.
I am expecting it to explode by itself.
I turn around and fly back towards the battle.
Guess what happens a few moments later…
A plane is shooting at me from behind.
Only thing behind me is my resupply point…and the ghost plane, which has apparently turned around and came after me.
That just aint right man.
It still has no red marker at all.
Anyway, he doesnt hit me much and he overtakes me.
Thats a big mistake on his part and I open fire to finish him off once and for all.
But again it wont get hit.
Then the problem solves itself, the plane keeps flying and just explodes by itself.
Just like the other planes than I have seen exploding like this.
Only difference is that this fucker came after me and opened fire…
I dont remember if I got the plane kill or not.
