Feedback on sniper rifles in the game

1.Regarding the model of the kar98k pre-war type sniper, we found that its scope is not the side-mounted version as shown in the image. If possible, could you change its scope to the side-mounted version?

This is a comparison of models and real objects in the game.

2.Can the M1 Garand sniper version BR3 be removed? Its model appeared in later conflicts like the Korean War and the Vietnam War, clearly not during World War II, as its M84 scope was released after the war…

Different scopes, different scope mounts. Don’t know much about WW2 German sniper rifles, but I’m fairly certain different models of scopes were used (due to a overall scope shortage, standardization was nearly impossible). So, if anything, this should either be a new rifle and not replace the old one, or implement a system of weapon modding so we can add the attatchments we want to our weapons (mostly useful for sniper rifles though).

I do know that the Germans in WW1 used both centre-mounted and off-set scopes at the same time, no idea if they standardised after the war to use only one style or the other, as the UK did (the UK went for a centre-mounted design post-WW1).

Both the M1C and M1D (“Sniper M1 Garand” is the wrong name, correct is M1D I expect) were used and produced during WW2, the problem about the scope I couldn’t find a difinitve answer to when it was in use, only that the M1D used either M82 or M84 scopes.

I would suggest that you find a source that confirms the date of usage/production of M84 scopes, or when they were used on the M1D, and if your claim turns out to be true you should ask for the M84 Scope to be renamed and remodelled into the M82 instead of aksing for the weapon in its entierty to be removed, that’s silly.

Yes you can remove the Garand scope, all of my level three snipers use one scoped Garand and one unscoped Garand. I don’t use ammo packs with my snipers because I use them more like assaulters who can snipe when needed. However you cannot interchange scopes from other sniper rifles

I find it slightly funny that we got technically equipment that wasnt even made during ww2 or never used but scoped garand is the problem.

Anyway, I find this as such miniscule problem that I dont think new skin or even a name is necessary.

They used to have this as you would be able to swap scopes/grenade launchers with bayonets. No way of swapping scopes with grenade launchers though oddly.

Oh, I have another question, I seriously suspect that there are no prototype photos of this gun, because I searched most of the web pages and looked for sniper versions of the carcano M38, and unfortunately I couldn’t find a historical prototype photo of this gun, as well as a video of its history, if you have historical photo content of it, I would be very grateful

Let me start of by professing that I am by no means a expert in Italian rifles, their scopes, or weaponry in general, I just happen to know a lot about historical firearms by being a enthusiast and my perticular set of “expertise” are in British/Commonwealth weaponry, followed by German and Swedish weaponry, and the US after that. I know less about Italy than I do either the USSR or Japan, and those latter two I don’t know much about either. But, I decided to have a crack at it anyway, because you learn by doing after all!

Looks like a German ZF41, pictured below on a Kar98k rifle:

My thoughts on this gun? I’m about 99.9% sure the M38+ZF41 combo is made up, here’s why I think so:

  • No evidence in primary sources or collector literature suggests that the 7.35 mm M38 Carcano was ever fitted with a German ZF41. Surviving Italian sniper rifles are overwhelmingly 6.5 mm Carcano long rifles with Italian or French scopes mounted on them (Scheibler, Amigues, La Filotecnica), not with German scopes.
  • The ZF41 was a low-power “scout-style” optic designed specifically for the Kar98k’s rear sight base (with secondary uses on FG-42s and on G41s), not a traditional choice for a Italian snipers optic who preffered longer ranges and higher magnification (the ZF41 is x1.5 in magnification). It was not a general-purpose export item either (only Germany seems to have been involved in its devemopment, production and the ordering of them), and its mount I expect wouldn’t line up with the geometry of a Carcano receiver. As far as I am aware there’s no documentation of any Italian arsenal modifying M38s for it.
  • Italy did receive K98k rifles from Germany (especially RSI units after 1943), and those rifles sometimes had ZF41s still mounted. So Italian troops may have used ZF41-equipped rifles, but they would have been German K98ks, not Carcano conversions.

However, even though there wouldn’t have been many of them converted for this use, there are some models of the M38 converted into a snipers weapon, using a prismatic Salmoiraghi scope, which would be the better option represent a accurate (or at least plausable) rifle, rather than something dreamt up. I think someone (not me, I’m still drafting my British weapons and vehicles suggestion series… I’ll be done with the first part about rifles soon I promise) should make a new post suggesting that the rifle in game have its scope corrected, the ZF41 is obviously incorrect.

Picture examples of the Salmoiraghi scope:

I found this interesting book that talks about Italian military… stuff… I don’t understand the language so I can’t tell what’s going on, but if anyone is interested here it is, and look for the pages 74 to 81 for the sniping article, the last picture from above is from page 77:

Oh oh, this will be the best alternative! It can replace the current carcano M38 sniper, and I hope planners will see it!
