I just want to update on where I was going with this post when I initially made it -
In my opinion, the current state of the bomber class is not where it should be for the campaign that I have played the most which is the Invasion Of Normandy on the Allies side.
The PIAT is, for some reason, incredibly unreliable. I have had times where I’ve hit their tanks point blank with the PIAT right on point for the ammo box and it just does nothing or wipes 1 squad member.
The arguments made above this post about the bomber having good range options is… interesting for me. Maybe it’s the case in other campaigns or for other allies/ axis sides however, in the case of the piat, this is not the case. The piat will often fire straight over the enemy tank at range or simply lands off to the side of where you aimed it, dealing no damage and letting the tank fire back with 1 HE round and removing your chances of doing anything to it. I’ve only found that by aiming almost at the floor is the only way to sometimes hit the tank at range instead of it going directly over the top.
My suggestions on changing this are:
Give the bomber class more reliable accuracy
Allow us to fire from lying down with the PIAT - it always hits the floor infront of you
Give players using the Bomber class an idea as to how far away a ping marker is (just like the mortarman role has) - this will allow for more accurate range selections.
Give the bomber a larger range of Anti-tank grenades, mines or whatever as the current state of them makes them underwhelming at best vs the usual Anti-tank grenade.
To balance out the current 4 Anti-tank grenades per soldier per squad meta, a few things should be changed:
Reduce the Anti-Tank radius, throw distance and effectiveness against Personnel
Lock them out of grenade packs so there’s 1 per soldier - this will remove spam and require more consideration and skill
Remove the rewarding of kills upon a suicide run with the Anti-tank grenade. As it currently stands, you can suicide with the grenade to guarantee the tank kill and it still awards you with the kills on the scoreboard. This will hopefully deter this style of gameplay.
The other option is to go down the route of locking anti-tank grenades etc to the bomber class and maybe engineers too.
Also, maybe if the speed at placing Anti-Tank cannons as engineers was faster then they would see more use as an effective ranged option to counter tanks.
