I did do research, i wanted at first to do the Besa machine gun a British gun based on the ZB-53 until i found out it weighted over 50 pounds, which puts both the 30-pound Lewis and 25 pound 42 to shame,
The I-23 is based on the Czechoslovak ZB vz.26 started in 1921 shortly after the first world war, The ZB-26 which is already in the game for the USSR.
There are several models of I-23’s that could be made, the Para 1 looks very nice, if its not clear this would be a great addition to the Enlisted arsenal of weapons

For germany *
in Moscow & Tunisia.
but, sure.
a gold order weapon light machinegun wouldn’t hurt, and would provide some new additions ( due to not being there many machineguns for germany or ussr not like… the ones we have are bad, but variety is somewhat good. so, perhaps more for ussr. than germany, but that’s alright )

Basically - the earlier guns were blow-forward, which wasn’t really useful in a MG, then the I-23 was developed with replaceable barrel and drum magazine for the ammo belt.
40 were ordered for testing, but the drum/belt arrangement was considered too complex and they looked at the BAR’s magazine and decided to do similar but on top - the rest, as they say, is history.
Of the 40 ordered 20 were delivered before deciding to go down the top-mounted magazine route.
