well, to be fair rommel was declared nazi what we know from his letters and he was member of NSDAP party and for a time, face of it heavly used in political propaganda…He wasnt that much bad guy couse he hadnt many occasions to be. He was general, not camp guard.
About Yamato I dont know what was his attitude to Japanise actions in Asia. Again, not many times that he could show racism.
Still we had red war criminals, lets have others too. All or noone.

They did, but mostly not because of ideology.
I don’t know much about Rommel, but I know Yamamato was opposed to war with the US, because he knew that Japan would loose. He however was bound by honor to fight for the emperor.
Not sure why people are so offended about Rommel and Yamamoto portraits. They were both strategic geniuses and a part of history. The greatest lessons we can learn are from the enemy.

Back then, from a very wise genius:
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.”
Present day:
“In 1989, nothing happened.”

Yes, but that change nothing about his personality and private beliefs. This shows only his different strategic view of war, which was ultimately correct. But we don’t call someone a genocide or a war criminal because they waged wars. It’s more about the motives for it and the way it is conducted. Awerness and support anyway make officials guilty of being part of it too.
weeeeeeell that is the problem. We can romanticize honor and loyalty, but in this case it had the dimension of merciless destruction of all enemies of the emperor. And no one questioned morality of it couse who the f you are to question decisions of god emepror.
there is nice film on yt about what led to gruesome performance of japanese army:
effects were, you know, Nanking and staff…
well I would have to be just as much offended by soviets portraits. Their occupation wasnt much better from nazi one for my people. And those faces are part of history. Maybe they are not needed in this game for gameplay, thats true, but in other games like HOI4 there are required. In this game I dont really care so much anyways. Iam just not useing those portraits couse dont like those figures, mainly bc what they did.
Again, we should have all the bad guys or none at all. And not like now, just washed communism because fate/Adi forcefully changed soviets side in war.

I agree to everything. History is History.
Heck, I use a permanent Montgomery portrait because commonwealth. And Monty had his moments…
“Sir, any comments about operation Market Garden?”
Monty: “Market what?”

“Search the record how one will, it is almost impossible to find anything good to say of the Japanese empire. Its liquidation was an unqualified benefit to the world. In the years before the conflict, Japan had its opportunity to develop its empire in miniature (in China, Korea and Formosa) and in this exhibition of the Japanese spirit it failed to show any virtues.”
