or
ELSE!
I do, because I have been working in that industry for nearly a decade. And I did it from the scratch.
The art of leading a publishing in cooperation with the developers is always to make the developer feel comfortable. And I repeat: feel. But in fact, nothing in cooperation with a publisher IS comfortable. Itâs basicly like petting the cow on a daily basis but keeping it in a tight shed and to only put exactly that amount of food in it to keep the milk flowing.
And if things get hot and decisions are need to be made, guess whoâs got the last word.
âGive assistanceâ - tell me what do you think does that assistance would look like? Expertise in developing? No, expertise in publishing. And itâs always the final argument - âyou want this to be sold? Then do it this or that way. Happy faces on f2p-gamersâ faces wonât fill your fridges - funding and profit will. If your project fails to promise profit, funding ends.â
If you want to stay independent as a developer these days, you have to come with a huge pile of pre-investment in order to make people work for selling a certain degree of quality that makes people want to consume your project.
What do you think it was like? Darkflow said: âHey, can we have your engine and model archive for our super duper idea we come along with?â And Gaijin said: âYouâre free to go, buddies, just holler if ya need anything to make you feel more comfortable in using our efforts. Oh, and take your time, no hurries, in our publisherâs world time ainât money.â
Surely not without even knowing anyone of both companies.
How can I know how this works?
Because it was the same with my negotiations with Crytek and their Cryengine.
The same with Epic. And AtariâŚ
The only investor that understood the size of my project and the idea to invest in it,
was a company that doesnât even had the slightest to do with creating or selling computergames.
Iâm really jealous of CRSED for all the pampering and love from the developer team, and amazing features theyâve given to it.
However, Enlisted is the ww2 style product that is welcomed by players, but they just copied and pasted here.
Iâm waiting for two years. to be precise, from 2016 when Cuisine Roale appeared on steam. I have been expecting Enlisted to reach the same level, with huge diversified battlefield and teamwork. But for now, Enlisted is still more about his technical potential than the gameâs content.
Oh, and however you may like to twist it in favor for your buddies at Darkflow or Gaijin,
if itâs really the absurd case that Darkflow is doing the publishing for the largest part with only a tiny bit of âassistanceâ by Gaijin, then I can promise you this project will fail like the fckn Columbia space shuttle back in 2003.
A developer who fails to code a proper AI for a game that is TIED to a properly working AI with the âUSPâ of squad-AI play (which isnât actually a USP), my advice would be clear: Focus on your craft, ffs! If you fail on coding what you want to sell, youâll utterly fail to publish/sell it. Because a secondary task obviously weighs a hell too much for you and will distract you from achieving even the fckn fundament of whatâs the idea. Selling a game. But failing to code properly while focusing too much on selling it, will make no one sell anything. Because there IS NOTHING to sell - namely a proper game that people want to play.
My origin of profession before going into the games industry was advertising.
And there is a thing that connects modern advertising deeply with modern publishing:
Both sell promises. and generate demands.
As I said somewhere else - itâs only and exclusively about the fckn Benjamins.
If you think different - please never dare to attempt to create a game, youâd be crushed in your illusions.
I would love to play if HLL also had destructible scenes and big maps and more vehicles and planes
My âbuddiesâ? Iâm literally advocating for a full boycott of the game, it is quite literally public knowledge that the development team of Darkflow hate me.
Regardless, the point of my post is that Darkflow are an independent developer in charge of the development of their own game. Gaijin are not hovering over them, making minute decisions about how the game runs and operates. Like you said, they only care about the money coming in. By all reports, Darkflow are allowed to run the game how they see fit, and Gaijin are there to provide support where needed (like in connections through marketing). Gaijin didnât foot some big bill for the game that theyre making sure they get back, the game was kickstarted to fund development.
hahahaha!!
do you played ww2 chekpoint?
ferstly - game is realy bad
and second thing - its not ftp - you must buy subscribe like in ww2 online
just for example look on ww2 online progression [its looks like bohemia interactive stuck in operation flashpoint and never develop any armas]
and look on enlisted progression
so⌠my friend im think you understand nothing in games
you a realy fun person)
and you realy realy must be a member of some russian comunity ) [im sure you alredy in]
The devs most definitely take the playersâ suggestions into consideration. However, just because something is being asked for by a handful of players, doesnât make it a good idea. Thatâs where testing comes in. If they test the idea and it turns out great, theyâll usually implement it. If not, its back to the drawing board if it still has potential. Which is likely where a lot of the things you listed probably are.
I sincerely hope that the devs do not listen to any of the player advice found in this forum, because the vast majority of it is horrible.
Rejoice!
DF devs are known to not really listen to the community, so⌠wish granted! They will continue doing as they do now, as if nothing happened.
I really appreciate that some of our players can speak out these problems. Everytime when I wanna recommand Enlisted to my friends, I always hesitate 'cause Enlisted is still under beta version and some bugs and character movements are truly annoying. Moreover, As a military player who translates Enlisted news among Chinese players, Iâve been enough of the ambiguous words in your dev as well as updates. Why not just make all language usage in news simple and clear?
And itâs better to design the initial levels of a campaign carefully and thoughfully at the dev period. If 1-26 ranks cannot achieve balance, the adding levels will not solve it, too. Many players are also demanding that slow down the development of new campaign or premium squads. Focus on the bugs and optimize user experience in game first so that there would be more new players join instead of quitting. We want to play a game with great prospect rather thanâŚ
Golden rule is âplayers are right about problems, wrong about solutionsâ.
For some Chinese friends, the most striking reason for their interest in playing is that the long level of unlocking gradually wears off their enthusiasm, and the relatively unreasonable matching mechanism (for example, in the Berlin campaign, a player who has not unlocked semi-automatic weapons can match several MP43 enemies, which is quite bad for him)
Telk me how you play a game wo is not released yet im curios
Examples? What specifically here in this thread have been âhorribleâ.
As a fan of this game, I am disappointed for the dev. I have waited it for months , but they give us a perfunctory dev. For example, will those guys in normandy campaign who have already get m4a176w or tiger to use a m18 or 4v to take the place of their tanks? Is it hard to give us some useful weapons? We need spend time for the levels, it is not as easy as CTRL+V and CTRL+C!
If the dev team need more money to make the enlisted a better place, you should tell us and crowdfunding instead of update more expensive and useless squads. Only when the team has a clear plan, the game will have a hopeful future.
Normandy. How surprising. After all WW2 was all about USA vs Germany, rightâŚ
Yes, because is not a political landmine like easternfront
Moscow and Stalingrad in this games arenât any more political than Tunisia or Pacific.
Just donât make me be Uncle Joe saving the world in Normandy in every single WW2 game and Iâll be happy.
